Baal-Eser II

Baal-Eser II (also known as Balbazer II) (863 - 829 BCE) was a king of Tyre, the son of Ithobaal I

Baal-Eser reigned at the height of Tyrian influence in the affairs of the Levant. During his reign, his sister was queen of Israel and his niece reigned as queen for a period in Judah, creating a zone of Tyrian influence unrivalled at any period in its history.

Tyrians, while not present themselves, were one of the most important groups who supported the anti-Assyrian forces against Shalmaneser III at the Battle of Qarqar in 855 BCE.

Also called Baalmazzar, he paid tribute to Shalmaneser in 842, during the latter's campaign in Canaan (cf. Jehu paid tribute at the same time, as shown on the Black Obelisk.) [1]
