Keys School

Keys School is an independent school for grades K-8 located in Palo Alto, California. Established in 1973, it is accredited through the California Association of Independent Schools. It has a high academic level and many of its students advance to higher tracks of math in High School.

Keys School Mission

Keys School offers a broad, hands-on curriculum that fosters high academic achievement and emphasizes balanced growth - intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Within a diverse and highly supportive community, Keys is committed to a caring and creative environment that encourages children to love learning, take intellectual risks, and treat others with respect and empathy.

Student body and teachers

Keys school is very small, only having a total student body of 195 in kindergarten through eight grade, approximately 22 kids per class. The student to teacher ratio is large, with 24 teachers to 195 kids. Some years the sixth grade has been increased to about 30 kids, but when the planned middle school is built, this will become the typical class size.

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is an event at Keys School where grandparents of students are allowed to come and visit, to see the academics and teachers.

Grandparents Day at Keys School is when grandparents and special friends come to Keys School to enjoy a tour of the school (by the 8th graders) and melody of singing (K-6th graders), as well as the acedemics of Keys.Grandparents day is a great event brining the aged together with the young. The stories the grandparents or special friends have to tell are very amazing and helps to lean about our history.

Children of Uganda

Children of Uganda (also known as "Empower African Children")is an event at Keys School where other children from Uganda come to meet our school, play with us, and give a wonderful performance. The Children of Uganda come every other year.

Intergrated Projects

Intergrated Projects at Keys School are projects the include more than one subject. These projects include bridges, the renaissance fair, and a trail. These are put on by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Specialty Classes

Keys has many classes of a depth and scope not offered at other schools. Seventh and eighth grade have Spanish four times a week to prepare for high school, and there's actually a class for high school prep(for eighth grade only). Mr T. teaches that, and he can't keep us eight graders under control to save his life, making the class a most enjoyable and memorable.

Music for K-6th is usually once a week, and 2nd-4th have Lower School Chorus every week on top of that. There're Spring And Winer concerts, led by Ms. Hodgett. Seventh and eighth don't officially have music, but there is a musical every year. Middle school also has a caroling group that meets every Wednesday.

One of the best classes for middle school is Rotation. Seventh and eighth traditionally put on two productions every year - a Drama and a Musical. the first semester is drama, so the students not participating in that have art and Service Learning. It switches around for the second semester. This is a fantastic way to force seventh and eighth graders to cooperate.

Sports

Keys offers a lot of after school sports. Football, Soccer, Basketball Softball. It is great every on in the school like the sports opportunities.
