Squirt (drink)

Squirt is a caffeine-free citrus-flavored soft drink created in 1938.
Development
Developed by Herb Bishop, the new product was called "Squirt" because the drink was claimed to "squirt" into one's mouth like a freshly squeezed grapefruit.[1]
Product Line
Squirt is naturally flavored but contains less than 1% grapefruit juice. Diet Squirt, the first soft drink in the United States to be sweetened with aspartame, was introduced in 1983. A vitamin-C-enriched Diet Squirt Plus was briefly marketed in the mid 1980s. Ruby-Red Squirt, featuring a citrus-berry flavor and containing caffeine, was added to the product line in 1993. In 2008, a new offering called Squirt Citrus Power was introduced. Unlike regular Squirt, Squirt Citrus Power is caffeinated, lacks concentrated grapefruit juice, and contains tangerine and other ingredients similar to an energy drink. Squirt, like many other sodas, has had many different types of bottles and logos.

Ownership of the Squirt brand has changed hands several times. It is currently property of Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
