Uncyclopedia Vandalism

RE: This message is regarding the page Wikipedia:Vandalism. Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. -- xaosflux Talk/CVU 02:37, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

The nonsense is your reversion of my entry. I am an administrator at Uncyclopedia, and if you understood our policy you would know that we do not allow 'silly vandalism', except in designated areas. Feel free to discuss this with us further in our IRC channel should you need additional clarification. - T.L. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.29.78.88 (talkcontribs)
By wikipedia's definition of vandalism, Uncyclopedia allows this type of editing on most pages, your notations may be more constructive on the Uncyclopedia article, then on the wikipedia project page. xaosflux Talk/CVU 02:53, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Parody does not equal Vandalism. We hate crap as much as you do. :) Inaccuracies such as the information contained in your link directly contribute to making our jobs more difficult. Wikipedia = Truth = "Uncyclopedia: A Silly Vandalism Site" = Tons of reverts each day for us. If my corrections to this link aren't welcome on a Project Page, then I would suggest that the Uncyclopedia link doesn't really belong there either. You have a standing invitation to our channel, anytime. Same goes for any admins here. Cheers. - T.L. talk
After some additional looking, I would have to agree that the absence of factual material != vandalism, and that you must have your share of mindless vandals as well. I have removed that external reference from our article, but please look over our article on your site and make any edits for accuracy ;) xaosflux Talk/CVU 03:17, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Very much obliged. I'll look the article over now. If there's anything specifically troubling that I miss, leave me a message about it on my talkpage @UN. - T.L.

Vandalism

I apologize the vandalism I posted. I did so not to create havoc but rather to prove a point to many groups of people who did not believe it could be done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.57.119.176 (talkcontribs)

Please see WP:POINT regarding that. xaosflux Talk/CVU 05:29, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

hey, thanks for pointing me the right way. I am new here and was just experimenting before I started to work on some proper articles InToTouch 05:11, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This was regarding this un commented large deletion by this ip. xaosflux Talk/CVU 05:47, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the revert on those, for whatever reason the changes didn't catch up to my watchlist. Hm. I'm still a new users around here so I'm getting used to all the formatting. WesleyPinkham 02:01, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you got off to a good start! When I check my watchlist if there are any entries for my watched articles I go and check the entire article history to make sure everything is OK. xaosflux Talk/CVU 03:28, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Thanks for voting on my RfA! The final result was (36/1/2), so I'm now an administrator! The correct title of this section is "thank you1". The use of the shift key is due to technical restrictions. Mo0[talk] 06:40, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Abraham Lincoln

Why did you take off my Lincoln quote? It was just a quote from a speech. I also posted the original speech manuscript. Please do not take it off again. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JJstroker (talkcontribs)

My only recent contrinution to that article was This one where I removed a POV edit by anonymous editor 70.22.71.242, reverting the article to the edits that you put in. My edit summary stated: (Reverted edits by 70.22.71.242 to last version by JJstroker). Please re-review the article history and let me know if I have removed any content that you feel is approriate to the article. {Please reply on My Talk Page} xaosflux Talk/CVU 15:54, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

D&D Templates

Seeing as how this is your baby, I don't want to rob the cradle, but I do have a suggestion. When you go to set up the template, were I you, to simplify things, I'd use a Case-style template a la Template:user religion. That way, you could do something like {{user alignment|tn}} or {{user alignment|ce}} as opposed to something fangly like {{user alignment_chaoticgood}} and have fifty bazillion (er...nine ^_^) userbox templates dangling about in the Template namespace. Then you could have an extra template, {{user alignment|unaligned}} that you could use that says something like, "This user has no alignment (or would rather not disclose it, or prefers not to associate themselves with an alignment)."</nowiki>

Just suggestions. You want any help, anything at all, drop me a talk line. I'd normally be bold, but this was your idea, and contributions are contributions. ^_^ Happy hunting! Cernen 12:02, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In fact that was what I was planning on doing, just dumped those three samples out there all in raw code as layout samples for color, wording, and link review. xaosflux Talk/CVU 16:03, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up. I am not quite convinced that I like all the boxes, and I am not quite happy with my D&D alignment - I did the quiz, it put me as LG, but I am not quite convinced. I never had any interest in playing paladins. Guettarda 18:35, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
LG isn't only for paldins ;) Do you think other colors might work better? xaosflux Talk/CVU 18:37, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Colours palette works for me. Also, I can't be anti-statist and call myself lawful. Ok, maybe I'm the problem, not the quizes :) Guettarda 19:02, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Looks nice, but I don't like/use userboxes for now. Might do in the future. — Sverdrup 02:31, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the D&D Thing

Although I am not much into D&D, I wish to thank you for your recommendation. I just added that for people to get to know my personality, and for a lot of categories. Thanks anyway, again. Эйрон Кинни 22:24, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the message, but I'm sticking with Support, hopefully this would be one of the situations mentioned in question 3b; if not that's why there are multiple admins and the arbcom. xaosflux Talk/CVU 01:12, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

my RfA

Thank you!
Thank you!
Xaosflux, thanks for your support on my RFA. I was rather suprised at the overwhelming support I received. Thank you for your confidence in me. I hope that I'll live up to your expectations in the future as well. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:37, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

D&D alignment boxes

Maybe you should subst out the userboxes in your D&D boxes, unless you think there might be changes to the template that you'd want to be automatically incorporated? You know, server caching and all.

Also, when you do that, I think the CSS attribute "clear: left;" would be in order. That way, if you put it next to another left-clinging box, it will drop below it and stay out of the way on the side rather than hogging tons of horizontal space. Without clear:

!! ?????????
!! ?????????

With clear:

!! ?????????
!! ?????????

Just a pair of suggestions.  :) —Simetrical (talk) 05:24, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the input, I am planning to subst out the embeded tempaltes on the templates once I make sure all the link, font, colors are good, because they become a real pain to work with after becoming all subst'd out! As for using clear, I've never put it in to any boxes before, but haven't had problems with them, what other non-expected effects would come of that? xaosflux Talk/CVU 08:00, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • For some reason, Clear snipes out all the space and doesn't give you anything to play with. If people want the userbox to drop down below, they can shove the wikicode snippet {{clear}} right next to the userbox entry. I've had so many problems with userboxes stealing space on my userpage. (Prolly why I got involved in the userbox project to begin with...) Cernen 08:37, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

True, the end user can just use clear themselves if they want. Most won't know how to, though, and may get frustrated. —Simetrical (talk) 03:36, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed from Category:Wikipedians in Florida that you are a floridian and I have created a state wikiproject, Wikipedia:WikiProject Florida. So far is it very small but it could be expanded later. Join it if you want and help set tasks etc. Thanks --Jaranda wat's sup 06:08, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

Hey Xaosflux! Thanks for your support on my RfA. The final outcome was an unanimous (45/0/0), so I am now an administrator. If you need help, or have a question, please don't hesitate to let me know! Again, thanks! :D --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 03:22, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Counter vandalism CFD notice

Regarding this edit, in which you posted the CFD notice on my user page. Next time, would you mind posting that on my talk page instead? ;) Cheers! – ClockworkSoul 18:41, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was stuggling with where this should go when used in userspace, and almost put in on the Talk pages, but the direction said it should go on the main page (assuming the page where the category up for deletion is located). I am generally warry about putting anything on anyone's User: pages. xaosflux Talk/CVU 18:50, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Because this is a wiki, and editors respect eachother, article protection is generaly not required. xaosflux Talk/CVU 07:38, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-emptive thanks

I just saw that you are taking a wikibreak from watching my watchlist. So firstly enjoy your break, and have a great holiday. Now to my heading thanks for your vote on my RfA it is appreciated! KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 08:26, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi xaosflux,

I would like to thank you for your kind support on my RfA. I'll do my best to be a good administrator. If you need anything or if I ever do something I shouldn't have, please, don't hesitate to drop me a line. Izehar 16:27, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Random quibble: multi-licensing

You can't multi-license into the public domain. If you release something into the public domain, it's no longer yours to release under the GFDL. Of course, anything in the public domain can be used on Wikipedia anyway, and it never makes any actual difference whether the stuff is multi-licensed or just in the public domain, but I'm a pedant by nature, so sue me. ;) —Simetrical (talkcontribs) 03:38, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guesing you are referring to the Category:Public domain minor edit license category that I am in? If this is an invalid licensing type, there are over 90 other people using it, and talk over retiring the Template:MultiLicenseMinorPD has failed before, but I am all for having my minor edits be open to anyone's use, at any time. Perhaps it can be worded that I agree to license my minor edits in to GFDL, THEN license them in to the public domain. From what I've heard some people to not accept that you can acutally grant a license to the public domain, as it is actually a release of licensing, but IANAL. Please feel free to bring that template and category to VP, or TFD/CFD to disucuss this, if you believe it is invalid, if you do I would appreciate you droping me a note that you have done so. Thank you! xaosflux Talk/CVU 04:11, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I will sometime. For now, however, it's a rather trivial issue.  :) —Simetrical (talkcontribs) 04:46, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

REGARDING COOL

This is User 66.17.116.148. You recently made an edit on my talk page telling me to stop vandalizing the page Cool. I have never edited this page before. Look in the history if you don't believe me. It is very upsetting to me to be issued this warning. I demand that you appologize IMMEDIATELY. I feel violated. I hate you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.17.116.148 (talkcontribs)

My greatest apologies, I palced the wrong page name on the 'regarding' line, and have since updated the message on your page, that message was actually reagrding this edit of anoth er user's User Page. Editing of other users User Pages is against the guidelines. xaosflux Talk/CVU 05:53, 29 December 2005

YOU BASTARD

I wasn't editing another user's page. I was editing MY page, however, I didn't sign in, so it appeared as my IP address. Rot in hell. 66.17.116.148

Apologies for any confusion, as you can clearly see User talk:66.17.116.148 that anon IP has caused repeated editorial problems in the past, including needing to be blocked from editing. Were these your edits, if so you may want to try to be a little more civil. I was attempting to protect YOUR page from vandalism by an anon address known to have caused issues before. xaosflux Talk/CVU 06:04, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
