Frequently asked questions

  • Where can I learn more about editing Wikipedia?
  • Why was the link I added removed from an article?
    • Typically, links are removed because they fail the external links guideline. Although many links are deleted because they were placed by spammers, links to good sites are also removed on a regular basis. This is because Wikipedia isn't a directory service; the mere fact a site exists does not mean it warrants a link.
  • Why was my article deleted?
    • Pages can be deleted for many reasons; there are very specific criteria that govern the process. Please review this article for more information.
  • Why was information relating to my company or organization removed?
  • Why were my spelling changes reverted?
Wikipedia's Manual of Style recommends the use of regional varieties of English, based on the topic and the article's contribution history. Please avoid changing spellings unless they differ from the appropriate version. Most spell checking software can be configured to use British and American English; some extend this to include other varieties such as Canadian or Australian English.

I had posted the following information, directly related to the subject, which has factual evidence supporting it....

The decision has subsequently given rise to a grassroots protest group, created by Christopher White on December 30, 2009, on the Facebook website entitled "Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament" which has been featured in global news headlines and attracted a membership of over 150,000 in its first 12 days of being online.

Reverting of affective computing and e-mail

The modifications I did to affective computing and e-mail were partly coming from my articles, which cite other sources. Consequently, these ideas are not only mines, and, furthermore, you make a mistake when confounding citing sources and making self-promotion.

Tea Studies Index(Non-encyclopedic content.)

Tea Studies Index Can you give me some suggestions on what needs changing(format), also where can I ask for help for others to participate in helping.

Below are some reasons for the need of this article

  • 1. On wiki there are many sections on terminology and classification.
  • 2. A Tea Studies Index information/article.
  • 3. In the Chinese language, there is a very detailed complete tea studies, terminology, and index, yet English has none yet.
  • 4. I propose this Tea Studies Index just like other fields have specialized terminology, index, and classification.
  • 5. The Tea Studies Index information/article I am the writer/owner, yet I give full permission to the wiki website for use and revisement or such, and give the above information to public domain use. No copyright infringements, any of this article's info, as been derived from posts from my blog (5 years noncommercial and I am the only poster therefore no permission needed)dedicated to tea studies education [1] Where I have posted some of this information about tea studies index. We also will be using this information at Tenfu Tea College and throught the tea studies community.
  • "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tea_Studies_Index some of the above info is from "

about your message

Bye for now.

About Alhambra

Hi Ckatz,

I write about your editing in the Alhambra page. I added a couple of sites I think that have the most complete information about the monument.

AlhambraDeGranada.org is an old page with very detailed descriptions of the places inside the Alhambra. An exalmple is the Places and spots section (http://www.alhambradegranada.org/en/info/placesandspots.asp).

Alhambra-patronato.es is the official website.

So, I think they should be there.

I wait for your comments. Best regards :)

Koobits

Hi Ckatz, my article got into some trouble. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koobits Could you please help me?

It says:

This article has multiple issues. Please help improve the article or discuss these issues on the talk page.

   * The notability of this article's subject is in question. If notability cannot be established, it may be listed for deletion or removed. Tagged since April 2010.
   * It is written like an advertisement and needs to be rewritten from a neutral point of view. Tagged since April 2010.
   * It may require general cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Tagged since April 2010.
   * It may have been edited by a person who has a conflict of interest with the subject matter. Tagged since April 2010.

How to establish notability? The article was written form a neutral point of view, with references showing the facts. Why is it considered not notable?

In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability, it says

If an article fails to cite sufficient sources to demonstrate the notability of its subject, look for sources yourself, or:

   * Ask the article's creator or an expert on the subject[6] for advice on where to look for sources.

* Put the

tag on the article to alert other editors. * If the article is about a specialized field, use the

tag with a specific WikiProject to attract editors knowledgeable about that field, who may have access to reliable sources not available online. I believe there are sufficient coverage in the page reinforcing the validity or notability for that matter. Does the problem lie with the

tag?

I did not change the content. Why the sudden warning? Will there be future warnings even if there are no changes to the content? Is it possible for other users to sabotage a page by falsely alleging that the page is not ‘notable’, or any other kinds of complaints for that matter?

I use DELL as an example, they seem to have no problem. Why do I have so many problems? =(

I feel so sad when my article gets rejected. Please help me! Thank you!

MLS reverts

the issue of MLS not being a canadian league, but a US league with a single, and soon to be 3 canadian teams has been debated with resolution via neutral third party. please do not continue to revert accepted information.

98.177.155.42

Hi Ckatz. Not sure if it is considered improper, but I wonder if your recent block of 98.177.155.42 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) wasn't a bit too mild. A couple of days ago, they got unblocked from a one year block, conditional upon good behavior, which specifically involved not redirecting their talk page to main space. They've been violating that rather emphatically. Cheers, Favonian (talk) 21:25, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not improper in the least, thank you very much for pointing that out. The block should probably be adjusted accordingly. Cheers. --Ckatzchatspy 21:33, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sodapaps

Ckatz: Is there a way to get Sodapaps to leave me alone. I have decided to follow the advise of various editors, including you, and just ignore him, but he continues to badger me. You can review his comments here: Sodapaps Edit One, Sodapaps Edit Two, Edit Three, Edit Four, Edit Five, and Edit Six.--InaMaka (talk) 02:20, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More of the same today: Kristi Noem article and My talk page.--InaMaka (talk) 15:41, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll leave InaMaka's and Kristi Noem's talk page alone. Though, a number of those posts are in my defense as InaMaka has opened up a Sockpuppet investigation on me. Yes, what I posted on his talk page was out of line, but I won't apologize for defending myself on the Sockpuppet investigation. Pointing out where he has lied, not assumed good faith, and shown the same indecency to other editors serves the purpose of proving that InaMaka has a history of improper behavior, and unfortunately for me I wasn't going to put up with it. Now, if you can close the Sockpuppet investigation I won't have to deal with him anymore. Until that happens, I will continue to defend myself on that page and call InaMaka out if need be. If he can't handle that, then he shouldn't have started it.Sodapaps (talk) 20:07, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2010 June newsletter

We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were Ian Rose (submissions) (A), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader), Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions) (C) New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.

If you're interested in the scores for the last round of the Cup, please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Round 3 and Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Full/Round 3. Our thanks go to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for compiling these. As was predicted, Group C ended up the "Group of Death", with 670 points required for second place, and, therefore, automatic promotion. This round will probably be even tougher- again, the top two from each of the two groups will make it through, while the twelve remaining participants will compete for four wildcard places- good luck everyone! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. J Milburn, Fox and The ed17

Ref reversion

Hi there, I noticed you reverted a lot of refs that were added by a spam account. I started a discussion at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard [5] to see if these are actually considered a reliable source or not. I'm not strongly for or against you reverting, but they did seem to support the material in the article so I thought I would ask what other people thought. Feel free to stop by and join in. Burpelson AFB (talk) 21:33, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding: The Pacific

I have cited my sources and given proper references. Why do you persist reverting the article? This is supposed to be "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." Not "the propagandist encyclopedia no one can edit" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.99.77.52 (talk) 09:38, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have to consider whether or not the incident is relevant to a global audience, and whether or not it is undue weight on a relatively minor incident. --Ckatzchatspy 09:44, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please take a look at this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_%C4%B0zmir than consider the implications of improperly twisting the events and airing them on a TV show that's watched by millions. The incident is relevant to the global audience because it's an inaccurate representation of what happened at the First WORLD War. Not only the Turks and/or Greeks but all historians would agree to preserve history according to facts, not fiction.
