Langley Thunder
The Langley Thunder are a Senior A box lacrosse club, based in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The team competes in the 7-team Western Lacrosse Association (WLA).
The team is made up of local talent. Local stars include Langley players Garrett Billings (2009 WLA Rookie of the year, 2009 WLA 1st team all-star) and Kyle Belton. The Thunder team notables include Mike Grimes (2010 WLA Top Defensive player, 2010 WLA 1st team all-star), Stephan Leblanc (Team Canada, NLL 2010 Rookie of the year), Brett Mydske (Team Canada), Athan Iannucci (2008 NLL MVP, single season scoring record holder). Other stars include Matt Leveque, Kevin Crosswell, Rob Van Beek, Kyle McEwen, & Alex Turner. The players are employed locally and play the game for the love of the sport & their fans.
History
The Thunder has undergone multiple name changes and transfer since their origination in 1994. Beginning in 2004, the team has been known as the Langley Thunder:
- 1994-1999 North Shore Indians (transferred to Kelowna)
- 2000-2001 Okanagan Thunder (transferred to North Vancouver)
- 2002-2003 North Shore Thunder (transferred to Langley)
- 2004–present Langley Thunder
