Accuracy of Information
It looks like this map is based on the same info as this other literacy map, just with slightly different ranges. If it is based on UN Human Development Report, then it should be noted that for a number of countries in the top tier (Norway, UK, US, Canada, ect) 'a value of 99.0% was applied' even if the actual rate of adult literacy is lower (page 171 of the report). This is inflating the actual rate of quite a few countries. In a US Dept. of Education report for example, a study found up to 14% of the US adult population is functionally illiterate and unable to comprehend simple written instructions.
I think it would be best to cite the source of this data and if it is the UN HDR, the gaps in the data need to be accurately represented. (More info and links to sources here.) 68.37.161.91 (talk) 14:10, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
