- Emperor Yang Guang of the Sui Dynasty orders the capital to be transferred from Chang'an to Luoyang, and orders the Grand Canal to be built.
- Amshuvarma becomes king of Licchavi.
- The Chinese Zhaozhou Bridge is completed under the Sui Dynasty, the earliest known fully stone open-spandrel segmental arch bridge in the world. Although the earlier Roman era Trajan's Bridge featured segmental arches, they were built of wood on top of stone piers.
