Statue of Liberty

I appreciate your work on the lede. I think it diminishes the impact of the end of the first paragraph of the lede if you insert a second "United States" there.--Wehwalt (talk) 21:14, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good edits, thanks. I think you are seeing how I wanted this lede to be written. Short, fast, and tight. Get in, say what you need to, hit the high points, sell your subject, then get on with the article. Save all detail for the body.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:01, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I feel good about the article now. If I didn't have an article already at FAC, I'd nominate it immediately. I don't always feel this good about an article, but I do this time.--Wehwalt (talk) 23:27, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion of art inserted.--Wehwalt (talk) 19:46, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Statue of Freedom image no good, the source page is dead and we will have problems proving it is government made. I struck it. What about the Delacroix?--Wehwalt (talk) 19:52, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've temporarily commented out your paragraph on the replicas until you can cite it. I can't come up with a figure for the number of replicas and fear this an open door for everyone from Las Vegas to Disneyland Paris to drop in their favorite replica. Also, I think it would be OK to mention the way the SoL appears in Planet of the Apes, most people know the movie and it will be a spoiler for very few. Thoughts welcome though.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:14, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I will add references as needed tonight to the replicas paragraph. I am not worried about the images being scrunched, this section will, alas, not get smaller.--Wehwalt (talk) 10:33, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FAC

What do you think of the suggestion that popular culture be inserted? I am very much against it, because if you open the door to that, there is no end to it, just look at the article on that. If you want to go ahead and ce now, I'll stay off the article for a bit. Also, do you see other things relevant to the suggestions (or anything else!) that I've left undone?--Wehwalt (talk) 16:52, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Going to bed. If you are up, it's all yours. See the comments on my talk page, btw. I think the FAC has generally improved the article, though I could have lived without the apes.--Wehwalt (talk) 03:53, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copper

I'm dubious, although this is a widely made tale, see this search.--Wehwalt (talk) 12:57, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. Thought I could trust the people at Norway.com :) Kaisershatner (talk) 13:17, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They're sneaky SOBs. I think the majority opinion is that it came from there, and apparently they donated an ore-laden stone for display on Liberty Island in the '90s as well. I still want to see what Moreno has to say about it and I won't be home until Sunday.--Wehwalt (talk) 14:32, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Columbia and the princess

here is exactly what we need for Columbia and the Indian Princess. Are you any good at getting images out of pdfs? --Wehwalt (talk) 21:06, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I got User:Connormah, who is a good guy and very helpful on image stuff, to take care of it. Let me know what you think. Also, there is a demand at FAC for that replicas paragraph. I will be home tomorrow so I will help out with that if it needs it.--Wehwalt (talk) 10:38, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is a good chance the article will pass FAC over the weekend if Brianboulton supports, as he seems minded to do.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:42, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Just wanted to thank you very much for all your help in getting Statue of Liberty to FA.--Wehwalt (talk) 17:11, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Collaborative news on quippd

Hey, I noticed that you had recently edited the Park 51 article, and I hoped that you could help out on another collaborative community edited project.

I run quippd, a collaboratively edited social news site, which mixes elements of Wikis, social networking, and social news sites. You can get some more information about what we are doing at: http://quippd.com/about/intro

Basically, we want to get good coverage on news stories, collaboratively edited, like Wikipedia. We are trying to take the ideas of WikiFactCheck -- to make news less biased and speedier (unlike something like Wikinews).

I hope you check us out -- and feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.

I have suggested either a merge or some radical sorting as the articles are so similar. As the main editor of the former, you may have a view. Marshall46 (talk) 14:34, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join a discussion in Talk:Gun violence in the United States

I noticed you've done some work in the above referenced article talk page regarding NPOV issues. I wanted to invite you to take part in a discussion I have initiated to change the page name to "Guns in the United States" or "Gun Culture in the United States". This title is much less slanted and clears up a big POV problem with the article. The discussion is located here: [[1]]DesertPhox (talk) 14:54, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Game of Thrones latest/last

Hi Kaisershatner. I guess I saw it more like "George W. Bush was the last president of the United States" and less like 'final' as you mentioned. If you feel it comes across more like the latter than the former and want to revert my revert, that's fine.Caidh (talk) 19:56, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As one of the editors who has made improvements to the United States Bill of Rights article recently this notice has been left to inform you that it has been selected as the United States Wikipedians' Collaboration of the Month for June 2011. The goal this month is to get this article to Good Article standards or better by July 4th, 2011. You can also vote for next months article of the Month or submit a candidate for article of the month here. --Kumioko (talk) 02:22, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main page appearance: Statue of Liberty

This is a note to let the main editors of Statue of Liberty know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on October 28, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 28, 2011. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886. The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of American independence. It has become an iconic symbol of freedom and of the United States. Fundraising for the statue proved difficult, especially for the Americans, and by 1885 work on the statue's pedestal was threatened due to lack of funds. Publisher Joseph Pulitzer of the World initiated a drive for donations to complete the project, and the campaign inspired over 120,000 contributors, most of whom gave less than a dollar. The statue was constructed in France, shipped overseas in crates, and reassembled on the completed pedestal on what was then called Bedloe's Island. Its completion was marked by New York's first ticker-tape parade and a dedication ceremony presided over by President Grover Cleveland. (more...)
