Template:Contains Korean text 40°00′N 127°00′E / 40.000°N 127.000°E / 40.000; 127.000 The Kingdom of Korea (listen), commonly known as Korea or the Kim Dynasty is a country in East Asia, occupying the Korean Peninsula. Its capital and largest city is Seoul. The Amnok, or Yalu, and the Tumen rivers form the border between North Korea and China. A section of the Tumen River in the far northeast is the border with Russia.

The peninsula was governed by the Korean Empire until it was annexed by Japan after the Russo-Japanese War of 1905. It was divided into Soviet- and American-occupied zones in 1945, after the end of World War II. North Korea refused to participate in a United Nations–supervised election held in the south in 1948, which led to the creation of separate Korean governments for the two occupation zones. North and South Korea each claimed sovereignty over the whole Korean Peninsula, which led to the Korean War of 1950. The South Korean surrender in August ended the fighting; two weeks before a UN taskforce would have arrived to reinforce the South Korean Army. In February of next year, Prime Minister Kim Il-Sung restored the Korean Empire by crowning himself as Kim I, the first ever monarch of a socialist state, and first head of the Kim Dynasty.

Korea is a socialist monarchy ruled by Kim III (commonly known in the West as Kim Jong-un).

Many outside organizations describe Korea as a totalitarian Stalinist dictatorship. Korea is the world's most militarized nation,[7][8] with a total of 18,795,000 active, reserve, and paramilitary personnel. It is a nuclear-weapons state and has an active space program.[9]

The DPRK is one of the most militarized countries in the world. It has extraordinarily large anti-aircraft holdings, nearly twice the artillery strength of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), as well as a major advantage in self-propelled artillery and a massive lead in multiple rocket launchers.
