Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Vinie007 (talk | contribs) at 13:20, 14 April 2012 (Current requests for protection). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – Adding information contrary to the existing reference, altering quotes from the reference, failure to engage in the existing talk page discussion—the point at issue isn't settled and does need more discussion. Semi-protection: Edit war in progress involving the IP 60.234.212.234. Also, high level of vandalism in general. Danmuz (talk) 07:12, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Article is target of a spam user, repeatedly removing tags and refusing to discuss any edits. GimliDotNet (talk) 06:33, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. I'm not so sure that was spam (at least the last 2 edits I saw), but I have blocked the user because people cannot use the username as a famous person. If that really is Kary Arora, then they'll need to prove it via WP:OTRS, and then they generally shouldn't be editing the articles directly anyway. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:34, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – BLP vandalism. -- Luke (Talk) 02:23, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The article relates to a Hindu festival that is currently in progress. As such, it is generating what is probably temporary interest from anons who are by & large disrupting something that is already pretty poorly sourced etc. The festival runs for 10 days and the disruption will most likely cease thereafter. The contributions are, I am sure, made in good faith but they are almost all being reverted due to sourcing issues etc. Sitush (talk) 01:07, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism. RA0808 talkcontribs 21:00, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Constant addition of unsourced full name. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:42, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Vandalism by Fisher654 who puts false information in the Azerbaijan country section of the article, and is erasing the official source of the Foreign Minisry of Azerbaijan, which shows the duration for ordinary Turkish citizens visiting Azerbaijan. The page was previously semi-protected for a week and then for three weeks due to the this user's vandalism (previously as an IP user which resulted with the semi-protection of this article twice), and has started all over again once the semi-protection ended - for the third time. Saguamundi talk 19:16, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Semi-protection wouldn't do anything, because Fisher654 is confirmed and can edit semi-protected articles. In any event, Fisher654 appears to have specific reasons for xyr changes, so the two of you need to work this out on the article's talk page. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:50, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent reintroduction of unverified BLP trivia. There's too many accounts already doing that; the added disruption by IPs is unwelcome. Drmies (talk) 16:47, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Permanent semi-protect. After a one-month period of semi-protection, it's back to having lots of bad edits. Please semi-protect indefinitely this time. No matter how long you leave it semi-protected, if you temporarily semi-protect it, expiration will allow bad edits to return. Georgia guy (talk) 12:32, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sorry, but the page has only been protected twice before--I'm not comfortable jumping from 1 month to indefinite, especially since this doesn't appear to be vandalism as much as it is just unsourced additions. Should it resume again after 3 months, it could probably go indefinite next time. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:47, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fullprotection: This article has been the target of a great deal of high level vandalism for a while now. The continuous adding of inappropriate material to the episode guides, and endless reversions I and other users have had to spend time implementing has reached breaking point. The article needs full protection indefinitely otherwise I would suggest having it removed entirely. ShedMediaUK (talk) 13:28, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Knowing absolutely nothing about the subject of the article, is this actually vandalism or more of a content dispute? - Rjd0060 (talk) 16:33, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    I asked ShedMediaUK to clarify. EdJohnston (talk) 21:36, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is persistant vandalism on a daily basis, not a dispute - vandalism. The article need protection. For example, entire texts are replaced by stupid, ridiculeous attempts at things like fanfic, abuse, obscure claims toward the programme. It needs stoping. ShedMediaUK (talk) 21:59, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – There is currently an edit war between a regular editor of this article and 5 other editors. The one editor is contently reverting the addition of an image that 5 others think is relevant. Temporary protection until everyone calms down and discusses it civilly on the talk page is probably in order to prevent any 3RR bans or other issues coming up. — raekyt 10:31, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this is necessary. I'm certainly not going to edit the page until there's some sort of agreement, now that Raeky has escalated the debate, and it seems that I'm the only one likely to make such an edit. The emerging consensus from outside the FPC regulars, incidentally, is that the additional images are not useful, so this should not be characterised as the position of a lone editor. --Stemonitis (talk) 11:25, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Since Stemonitis has agreed to stop reverting, and since there wasn't all that much edit warring going on, I'll decline this for now. Should the problem re-occur, please make a new request. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:41, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: BLP policy violations – High-visibility topic with BLP implications as evidenced by this IP edit. VQuakr (talk) 03:22, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Only one IP edit on the 12th, and not much on the 11th. Considering how topical it is I don't think that is that bad, is it? Secretlondon (talk) 08:02, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, compared to many articles the history is not that bad. The BLP issue is what prompted me to think semi-protection was appropriate. VQuakr (talk) 08:12, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Talk page, should not be protected simply because the non-talk page is protected. LikeLakers2 (talk | Sign my guestbook!) 18:38, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I agree but I'd like to wait for UtherSRG (talk · contribs) to explain this protection first. Regards SoWhy 21:33, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
