Kynetx, Inc. is a privately held platform as a service (PaaS) company based in Lehi, Utah. It provides a development platform for context automation that is the first of its kind. The platform uses Kynetx Network Services to supply tools to developers to create context-aware applications that can run on a multitude of devices, including browsers, mobile phones, and desktops.[1]

History

Kynetx was co-founded in 2007 by Stephen Fulling and Phillip Windley. The two previously had several successful business ventures together. Before founding Kynetx, Phil and Steve were instrumental in selling a Utah based e-commerce company called iMall to Excite@Home in 1999 for 425 million USD.

After iMall, Phil went on to hold the appointed position of CIO for the State of Utah. Phil is well known for his work with identity 2.0 and the Internet Identity Workshop.[2][3]

Steve left Excite@Home to become the Director of the ITS department for the State of Utah. He also held the position of CIO for a Utah based customer contact company called Sento.

Application development

Developers write applications in the Kinetic Rule Language (KRL), a rule-based language for defining contextual interactions with web pages a user visits.[4] Currently, such development can be done via the interface of the Kynetx AppBuilder.[5]

Kynetx, Inc. has a strategic partnership with Acxiom, a multi-billion-dollar company specializing in using consumer data to help businesses make informed marketing and business decisions. The Kynetx platform allows developers to leverage that data within the realm of context automation.[6]

Additional data sources announced at Kynetx Impact 2.0 were GData, Amazon's Product Advertising and OData API access. With these additional data sources, a developer can gain access to a wealth of contextual information and trivially include this data in their applications.

Conferences

Kynetx holds semiannual developer conferences called "Kynetx Impact." Each conference is denoted with a version number (e.g. Kynetx Impact 2.0) and has had a steady increase in attendance with each revision. These conferences attract keynote speakers from across the entire web development spectrum. Some past keynote speakers have been G. Craig Burton, founder of Novell and the Burton Group, Kim Cameron, Security Architect with Microsoft and Doc Searls

During these conferences, new platform features are announced and discussed. "Un-Conference" like sessions are a staple where developers of Kynetx Platform applications can get advice and discuss application ideas with the KNS platform's core development team.
