Gojong (1852 - 1919) (고종, 高宗) was the 26th king and 1st emperor of the Korean Joseon Dynasty. Originally, Gojong's father, the Hungson Daewongun, ruled for him, but later, after Gojong had become an adult, Gojong ruled the country directly.

Gojong attempted to save his country from foreign powers, but was forced to abdicate by the Japanese after he sent representatives to Hague Peace Conference, denouncing Japan.
