Anticon is a collective of alternative hip hop musicians, based in Oakland, California. They are notable for their progressive, "artistic" approach to their music (in fact, three of the members met in art school). However, they are often criticized for being pretentious or labeled as "nerd rap".

Members

Formally, Anticon consists of the following eight people: (listed with pseudonym first, real name in parenthesis)

However, several other artists, including Buck 65, Sage Francis, and Slug of the group Atmosphere, are or have been closely associated with Anticon in the past, and have collaborated with Anticon.

Some notable projects of Anticon include cLOUDDEAD (Why?, Doseone, and Odd Nosdam), Themselves (Doseone and Jel), and Restiform Bodies (Passage, Telephone Jim Jesus, and The Bomarr Monk).
