New Yaohan（Chinese: 新八佰伴）is the only Department store in Macau which is established on September 18, 1997. New Yaohan is one of the fully subsidiary companies of Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau. The store is located on Avenida Dr. Mário Soares, Praia Grande and one outlet store in Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal.
History
Yaohan established a branch store in Macau which was located on Avenida da Amizade and next of Jai Alai Casino (回力娛樂場) in 1992; for the opening, the store is the first department store in Macau. As Kazuo Wada, the director-general of Yaohan Japan Corporation, announced that the Group was filed for bankruptcy on September 18, 1997, [1] Panda Sociedade de Gestao de Investimentos Limitada which is a subsidiary company of Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau and Shun Tak Holdings purchased the ownership of the branch store of Yaohan in Macau. [2][3] Then, Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau established a subsidiary company as New Yaohan Department Store (Chinese: 新八佰伴百貨) for related operation and re-open the department store with a new brand name with New Yaohan. [4]
Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau wanted to demolished the store building and rebuild as Oceanus (回力海立方娛樂場), the contingency development plan to her casinos subsidiary company Sociedade de Jogos de Macau. Thus, the building of New Yaohan was being moved the location from Avenida da Amizade to Avenida Dr. Mário Soares which opposite to the old Judicial Court of Macau as the new building for the store [5]; As the moving site plan of New Yaohan, the store was not opened on the original site since August 02, 2008 till the grand opening of the new site on August 08, 2008. On the other hand, New Yaohan Department Store invest 30 million patacas for the outlet store as named as New Yaohan Outlet Chinese: 新八佰伴Outlet) on the third floor in Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal which is landed for 11,000 sqm2 and it was opened on March 22, 2010. [7] Moreover, New Yaohan manages some different brands as outlet store in The Venetian Macao, Four Seasons Hotel Macao and One Central as well. [6]
