Cherimu (チェリム) are one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. The Cherimu is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, alongside the Pachirisu and the Dorapion. The purpose of the Cherimu in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its Japanese name comes from the English word cherry as the Cherimu is the "Sakura Pokémon", and sakura are ornamental cherry trees known for their pink blossoms.
Appearance
Cherimu appear to be humanshape Pokémon, with foliage making up their limbs and bodies. Cherimu have yellow bodies, with two large berries (likely cherries) on their heads. The petals on their forehead and back resemble those of a Sakura tree, which makes sense, seeing as they are classified as the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Pokémon. The four petals on their back are connected to a round stem on the back of their heads.[3]
In the video games
Although not much is known about the Cherimu, some information has been released about its attacks and abilities. It has been noted that it can have one new ability, Flower Head, which powers itself and another Pokémon in its team up when the attack Sunny Day is in effect, although that ability may only work on the ally Pokémon during a double battle. The Cherimu can also learn a new attack, Trouble Seed, which temporarily changes the target's ability to Insomnia.[4] It also learns previous attacks Sunny Day, Grass whistle, Leech Seed, and Magical Leaf.
It has been revealed Cherimu has different appearances, depending on the weather or time of day in game, similar to Castform. When the clock is not set to daytime, or when the attack Sunny Day, which covers the field in a bright light, is not active,[5] Cherimu will appear as a closed up flower bud with purple petals enclosing its body and two short legs protruding from the end.[6]
