Afrin Canton (Template:Lang-ku) is the westernmost of the three cantons of Rojava. It was declared autonomous in January 2014.[2][3] The administrative center of the canton is the town of Afrin.[4] The Prime minister of Afrin Canton is Hevi Ibrahim. Most of the people who live in Afrin Canton are Kurds. The local government feels threatened by the al-Nusra Front in the Syrian Civil War.[5]
Administration
According to the Constitution of Rojava, Afrin Canton's Legislative Assembly on its 29 January 2014 session declared autonomy.[6] The assembly elected Hêvî Îbrahîm Mustefa prime minister, who appointed Remzi Şêxmus and Ebdil Hemid Mistefa her deputies.
Economy
Afrin is under an embargo imposed by Turkey. This has had a dramatic effect on the people of Afrin. [7]
Agriculture is a major part of the economy, particularly wheat production.[8]
