History and Projects

Tanks

In 2008, AlternativaPlatform created a demo, named "Tanks", and entered it into Adobe Max Conference (2008). It was designed to demonstrate the possibilities of "alternative" technological solutions in developing video games. Developed on the Alternativa3D 5 graphics engine, the game itself was about tank games based on Flash. Tanks attracted the attention both from the professional community and the masses throughout the Internet.[4]

Tanki Online

After the creation of Tanks, AlternativaPlatform started development of Tanki Online The world's first three-dimensional game built on Flash technology. On May 8, 2009 Closed Beta Testing for the game began. Already, the game had received an award at the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2009) in the category "Best game without a publisher."[5][6]

In early June, 2009, Tanki Online moved into Open Beta Testing and rapidly gained a player base.[7] For the majority, this moment is know as the beginning of Tanki Online. It is still the company's main project, and available in Russian, English, German, Chinese and Portuguese and has more than 70 million registered accounts in 50 countries. Tanki is most popular in China, Russia, Brazil, Ukraine and United States. The game is especially increasing in popularity in the Baltic countries. Currently, it has 106,000 Baltic users, and 26,000 new users from Lithuania alone were registered in February 2015.[8]

On March 2, 2017, Tanki Online was released on Steam to mixed reviews. The now rather aged game currently has a total 734 reviews with 411 being positive and 323 being negative reviews.[9]

Tanki X

AlternivaPlatform's new project, Tanki X is the heir to Tanki Online and shares similar gameplay mechanics. Created in 2015, Tanki X has many advantages over Tanki Online, including higher graphical fidelity, as it is built on the Unity engine. It is currently in Open Beta Testing and has a total of 500,000 players worldwide.[10]

On April 20, 2017, Tanki X was released on Steam to mostly positive reviews. It currently has a total of 435 reviews with 315 being positive and 120 being negative reviews [11].
