Gary "Doc" Hermalyn (3 August 1953)[1] is an American historian and author, based in New York City. He is an Edgar Allan Poe scholar,[2] and an authority on the history of The Bronx.[3][4] Hermalyn is editor/author of 172 publications on urban history, geography, education, natural history and exploration.[5] He is CEO of The Bronx County Historical Society.[6]

Hermalyn was born on 3 August 1953 in The Bronx, New York City.[1] He grew up in the Gun Hill-Norwood, Bronx neighborhood.[7] He graduated from The Bronx High School of Science,[8] earned a bachelor's degree from City College of New York, a Master of Arts from Long Island University (1982) and a Doctor of Education from Columbia University (1985).[1][9]

He has been director,[10] then executive director[11][12][13][14] and is currently CEO of The Bronx County Historical Society.[6] He founded and established the Society's The Bronx County Archives and The Bronx County Historical Society Research Library.[5]
