Welcome!

Hello, People Powered, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place helpme on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Rklawton 04:28, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Days of the year

Please note that date-based subcategoires are NOT used in the days-of-the-year pages. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Days of the year for the template and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Days of the year#avoid subcategories for more specifics. If you want to add them, you need to get a general consensus first. --Calton | Talk 02:16, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto. It's generally considered polite to discuss format changes to project pages before implementing them. I've gone ahead and created a discussion thread for this topic on the project's talk page. I also propose not rolling back your changes until they've been discussed and voted on. The changes made, at least, can serve as an illustration. Rklawton 04:27, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your support on my recent Request for Adminship, and for the kind words in your rationale (I'm an "interesting character," ey? I always thought I was dead boring... :) ). The request was ultimately unsuccessful - which wasn't entirely surprising - and so I'll be taking special care to address the concerns raised by the opposing !voters before running again. If you have any feedback for me, please don't hesitate to leave it at my talk page. Thanks!

re: Signature

Hi there! All you need to do to change your signature is go to 'my preferences', which is on the bar in the top right corner, and enter in the syntax of how you want your signature to look in 'my signature'. Have a look at WP:SIG for some more detailed guidelines on how to change your signature, and to see what people don't like to see in a sig (very long, too colourful, too many links, etc). Hope that helps, and feel free to ask again if something doesn't work out! Regards, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 00:19, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I seem to know where it's at... I'm such a jive turkey. Sorry, I don't know where that came from... Some advice I can give you is to sign up for the Wikipedia Signpost, which will tell you about recent events on Wikipedia. Getting yourself involved in Wikiprojects is also a good idea. Another thing you can do is join a cultcommunity like Esperanza, which works by promoting friendliness and hugs between Wikipedians, and is a good place for people who are getting stressed by activites on the project. I have noticed that you are a good article editor, but if you are willing to expand yourself, you may want to check out new page patrolling and recent change patrolling, where you can help revert vandalism, mark new articles for wikification/deletion. Participating in articles for deletion discussions and other deletion debates, or peer reviews and featured article nominations, will also help to get you more involved within the community.
Also, a good way to get yourself recognised and acknowledged is by talking to people! Most of us are a friendly bunch :) Feel free to ask questions and leave compliments or constructive criticism on talk pages and user talk pages – most people will welcome communication if it is phrased politely enough.
I hope that helps. Persistence, politeness and quality contributions will rarely go unrecognised around here – most of us keep an eye out for each other. If you have further questions, you know where to find me. Best wishes, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 02:46, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK. To join Esperanza you need to go to the members list. You need to have 150 mainspace edits, too (you have 143, so maybe wait a day or two). Once that's all clear, just add yourself to 'active/semi-active members'.
As for the photography – anybody is allowed to upload their own images onto the encyclopedia. There's a handy picture tutorial which explains the process in detail. Generally, it is preferred that you upload images onto Wikimedia Commons, so that all of Wikipedia's sister projects can use the image as well. There are a lot of licensing issues when you are uploading issues, which are detailed at length in the tutorial.
There is also a photography WikiProject, which seems to be inactive right now, but you can be the bright spark and start it up again! As far as I know, the members of the WikiProject still contribute images, but don't actively participate in the WikiProject, so perhaps it needs some more direction.
Hope that all helps... if you need clarification, let me know. I'm sorry if I sound a little wishy-washy on the images issue; to be honest, I'm yet to get my head wrapped around all the licenses and copyrights in place! I'm learning, but the curve is steep...
Best wishes, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 02:25, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
deindenting That's pretty bizarre, they're in 2 sections and won't go away... I have no idea why that would happen. Suggestion: type helpme on your talk page, someone should come along sooner or later, ask them to have a look at it. Please provide them these links [1] and [2] so they won't have to go hunting for them. So sorry I couldn't help more... I'm as confused as you are! — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 08:53, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, People Powered, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

License tagging for Image:Rockingham16.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Rockingham16.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:06, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

The Halo's RfA

Your baby

Hi there People Powered! I think it's coming along really well, and you've done a great job. If you need help, I can suggest joining WikiProject Elections and Referenda, WikiProject UK Parliament constituencies and/or WikiProject British Government, where you can ask like-minded users to give you a leg-up (I would love to help, but being Australian and largely apolitical, I think I'd screw it up more than anything!).

And regarding the green 'e's in the signature – they're not essential, but they do create a greater community awareness of Esperanza, so some people do advocate them. If you want to put one in your sig, this is what you need to do...

  • Create the subpage User:People Powered/Esperanza.
  • Type greene on the page and save it (In your case you would write: ).
  • In my preferences (in the top right-hand corner), change one the 'e's in your username to a green 'e'. For example, if you would like to change the first 'e' in your username, type this into the signature bar: P<font color="green">e</font>ople Powered and save. (Here, I've provided a link to your talk page as well, which is something people like to see in case they need to talk to you quickly and don't want to skip over your userpage to get to you).

Hope that all makes sense...

Cheersy, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 02:42, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll have a look at it when I have an hour or so to spare (editing in between lectures right now – naughty!) By the way, something seems a little off with your sig... did you copy paste what I wrote down? Cuz it seems to be a little screwy... Have a play around with it. I'll come back on in a while and take a look at the link you sent me. Cheers, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 03:14, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh man... by the way, I thought New Hampshire meant England... not New England. I'm embarrassed now. — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 03:16, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I'm back (really shouldn't be... but what the hell). I am at university right now, so if you'd like some feedback on anything just send me a message, I'll try my best to clear it up once I get home :) Cheers, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 04:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nishkid64's RfA thanks

Thank you very much for participating in my RfA, which closed successfully earlier today with a result of (60/9/4). Although, I encountered a few problems in my RfA, I have peacefully resolved my conflicts and made amends with the people involved. If you have any further questions or suggestions, feel free talk to me. I hope I will live up to your expectations. --Nishkid64 22:14, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have high-speed internet and that article took a while to load. My question is whether or not it is really worth putting up all those templates? Couldn't you get the same type of page just by doing it with text? I'm no template expert, but I know that one of our most recently promoted admins is a template expert. I suggest you contact Ligulem. I think he could help you out in this situation better than I could. 23:32, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Still a bit slow. Like I said before, contacting Ligulem would be the best suggestion. I bet he could give you an answer to your question. Thanks. --Nishkid64 00:11, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You

Thank you for letting me know, I was away for awhile and I put alot of work into that. Centurion 5 00:25, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Comment

Hello. Just a quick question about your comment at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/StuffOfInterest 2. For your first diff [3], did you mean it to be this instead of the one that you included? I think so, but I wouldn't like to edit your comment innapropriately. --After Midnight 0001 17:44, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a tally of 66/11/5. I learned quite a bit during the process, and I expect to be learning a lot more in the days ahead. I will be taking things slowly (and doing a lot of re-reading), but I hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do to improve in my new capacity. -- Merope Talk 13:40, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback

Alrighty then. Now, if you really want feedback, a great thing to do is to set up an editor review, where other users can assess you and your work (feel free to review me while you're there). If you like, I can give you my $0.02 right here.

  1. Edit count – your edit count is average for someone who has been contributing since late July. 880+ edits is good, and I personally feel that it's the quality rather than the amount of edits that count. But in an RfA, many users (including myself) will want to see a higher, more consistent rate of editing. This will show that you are committed to the project and will give people a better idea on how to assess you (of course, the more you edit, the more mistakes you make! :) )
  2. Branch yourself out – many people like to see admin candidates who work on a particular area consistently ("We need more people working in this area", "Has prodigious knowledge of such-and-such", etc). However, limiting your edits to New Hampshire (New England, not England :p) may be viewed negatively as well. Consider pressing the little random article button on your left – and fix it up! Who knows what might reach featured status someday.
On a similar note, you might consider taking up vandal-fighting if you have the time – check out the counter vandalism unit project page for all the neat tools people have written to help out with that. I notice you occasionally participate in AfD discussions, which is good.
  3. "Adminship is no big deal" – this is probably the most important bit. Step back, and ask yourself why you need to be an administrator. Administrator isn't a reward (that's why we have barnstars); it isn't validation. It's a chore. People who are granted sysop privileges for the wrong reasons generally aren't very good sysops. RfA !voters will place a lot of stock on your answers to the default questions, and trust me, if they ain't happy with them, they'll keep bugging you with more questions, or pile on the opposes. So you need to assess what you will gain from sysop rights.
I've written all this based on the knowledge that you might consider requesting adminship, so if my feedback is a little skewed in that direction, please let me know. My knowledge of the internal workings of Wikipedia may also be considered fairly basic by some standards, which is why an editor review is a good way to get assessed by different people in the community, without the finger-pointing and testicle-crushing of an RfA.
Also, there's a lot of helpful info on WP:SYSOP and links to other good essays, etc, on adminship and what it's all about.
    Best, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc|damage report 15:58, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

People Powered, thanks so much for your review! It meant a lot to me :) I have given you a shortish review, but of course the bulk of what I had to say is above all this. All the best, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 05:51, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good lordy! I'm certainly being given a lot of food lately... I must be the pudgiest Wikipedian ever :) Thanks very much. I've had clam chowder before and loved it, but Moxie certainly sounds like something that might take a little getting used to :D — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 03:03, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vegemite is not something most people complain about not getting enough of :D Oh, it's not that bad... I think it's the colour that turns people off more than anything. Moxie sounds interesting (gingerbread made into a drink... I am SO going to try that the next time *cough* I'm in New England). — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 03:10, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question: referring to me as 'he' in an edit summary is... well... I don't quite know what to say. xD — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 03:15, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Teal is very womanly. I don't know what you're talking about :D Would you prefer candy stripes? — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 03:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To prove my point; a very ladylike teal.

Oh my god, I am shattered. Too dark, you say? Very well, it shall be adjusted. :) — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 03:22, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've lightened it a bit now – hope I'm not causing any headaches anymore! I'm off to study for a maths test, but if you have any more of that clam chowder left over, you know where to send it :D Cheersy, — riana_dzasta wreak havoc-damage report 03:28, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gigai

Sorry for proposing your newly created page for deletion, but IMO it's a non-notable aspect of Bleach that does not need its own article (any info in there is already covered in Shinigami (Bleach)). Feel free to vote in the AfD, but if you vote keep, I'd be greatful if you stated your rationale (other than because you created the article) so that other editors and I can formulate an unbiased opinion. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 20:01, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Editor Review

I am glad you have understood my review was meant to be friendly, even if it may have sounded harsh. I know how one feels when others edit an article you have worked a lot on, I used to feel the same with articles I contributed a lot, like Goldmoon, Sturm Brightblade and Riverwind. However, I learned that, in order for Wikipedia to work, we must trust each other, and it is good to see you have understood that concept. As for your joining the RC patrol, you may get stressed, as some vandals like to vandalize your user or talk page once you begin catching them. When that happens, just remember to stay calm, to always treat them in a civil way even when they attack you, and take wikibreaks when the stress level goes up. Good luck! -- ReyBrujo 12:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i was paid thirty pieces of silver for this

wikiproject NH

I'm not very active in the project; I'm not organized enough, alas! I just make changes that I think are necessary on the state articles I know something about. There were a couple folks who were more active for a while, although I haven't seen much lately. I would suggest wandering through state-related articles that catch your attention and see if it's mentioned on their Talk pages - there may well be activity that I have missed. - DavidWBrooks 16:14, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
