Relentless Mutation is the 3rd studio album from Vancouver, British Columbia technical death metal band Archspire. It was announced in tandem with a lyric video for the album's premiere single, "Involuntary Doppelgänger", on July 5, 2017, by heavy metal news site Metal Injection.[1] The album was released by Season of Mist on September 22, 2017, selling 1,650 copies in its first week according to heavy metal new site MetalInsider.[2] [3]

The album debuted at number #14 on the U.S. Heatseekers Chart, #15 in the Hard Rock Album sales, #34 in Independent Albums sales, and #46 in rock album sales.[4] [5]

In February 2018, the album was nominated for the 2018 Juno Awards Metal / Hard Music Album of the Year.[6]

Artwork for the album was provided by Eliran Kantor.[7] Kantor had previously produced album artwork for Testament, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hatebreed Hate Eternal, and others.[8]

Background & Promotion

It is the first release by the band since 2014's The Lucid Collective, and the first release to feature bassist Jared Smith who replaced bassist and vocalist Jaron Evil who departed in 2014.

In addition to "Involuntary Doppelgänger", the band released three additional singles to promote the album - "Remote Tumour Seeker", on July 28,"Human Murmuration", on August 22, and "Calamus Will Animate" on September 18.[9]

The song "Remote Tumour Seeker", according to the band, is based on brain experiments carried out by the Japanese doomsday cult founded by Aum Shinrikyo.[10]

A karaoke-style lyric video was released via Season of Mist's Youtube channel to promote the fourth single "Calamus Will Animate".[11]

The album was made available for streaming in its entirety via Season of Mist's Youtube channel on September 21, 2017.[12]
