Romeo and Juliet Act I

The prologue includes the chorus giving us a short summary of the play Scene 1: This scene starts of in Verona Italy. This scene starts off with Capulet servants, talking about how they could go and fight the Montagues Some Montague servants show up. The servants decide to fight the Montagues. While fighting Tybalt and Benvolio walk on stage and Benvolio tries to break up the fight while Tybalt wants to fight, and they start fighting. The townspeople get involved in the fight. The Officer had to try to break it up. Once the prince found out he stated that if anyone fights again they will be killed. Lord and Lady Capulet and Lord and Lady Montague come across the fight. Lord Capulet and Lord Montague want to join the fight but the ladies hold them back because they are too old to fight.Lady Montague asks about the whereabouts of Romeo. Romeo’s parents and Benvolio talk about Romeo’s depression. Benvolio comes across Romeo and tries to make Romeo feel better. They talk for awhile, and Benvolio finally drags it out of Romeo that his depression is because of a girl. He is in love with a Capulet that is not interested in men. Benvolio promises that he will make Romeo forget about this girl that he loves. Scene 2: This scene starts off with Count Paris and Lord Capulet talking. Count Paris wants to marry Lord Capulet’s daughter, Juliet, but he says she is too young. Capulet then tells Paris’s servant to invite all of his guests for the party that night. The servant can’t read, so he asks Romeo and Benvolio, who show up at this time, to read the list of guests for him. Romeo reads the list and finds his lady’s name and he decides he wants to go. Benvolio decides the party would be a good way to make Romeo to forget about this lady. Scene 3: Lady Capulet and the nurse talk to Lady Capulet’s daughter, Juliet, about marriage and Juliet decides she does not want to get married. Lady Capulet sees it as a social upgrade Scene 4: In scene 4 Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio go to the Capulet’s party. Romeo is still very sad about Rosaline. Mercutio tells his Queen Mab dream. All of his friends try and turn his frown upside down. Scene 5: This scene starts off with Lord Capulet starting the party. Romeo sees Juliet and asks who she is. Tybalt recognizes Romeo and wants to fight him, but Lord Capulet doesn’t allow it. Romeo talks to Juliet. Romeo thinks that him and Juliet are perfect together. Juliet leaves and Romeo talks to Juliet’s nurse. He finds out that she is a Capulet. Juliet talks to the nurse thereafter and finds that Romeo is her enemy.
