Vanniyamparambil Joseph Mathews , popularly known as V. J. Mathews, is a Malayalam writer and businessman from Kerala, India. Founder and presently Chairman of the Leetha Group of companies, established in Kalamasserry, Cochin Kerala. Commenced the official life as a shipping executive in a well-known shipping company at Cochin. Worked in Indian Airforce for a period of sixteen years. Had gained experience during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and of 1971.
Biography
V J Mathews Vanniyamparambil was born to John Joseph, and Mary Joseph on 28th April 1944, at Cherthala, Alappuzha district, Kerala. After schooling at St.Thomas H.S Pala, he worked as an Assistant shipping executive in a reputed shipping company at Cochin. He obtained Diploma in ‘Electronics and Technology’, joined in Indian Air Force in 1963 and served for sixteen years. He gained wide range of experiences in Indo-Pak wars, fought in 1965 and 1971. Retired from service as a Sergeant in-charge of a fighter squadron in Kashmir Valley.
After retirement he started his own industrial unit in packaging field named ‘Leetha Industries’ at Kalamassery with seven employees, and financial assistance from bank, which grown to be a major industrial venture with four factories and 500 employees. Presently he is the chairman of ‘Leetha Group’ consisting of three limited companies namely Leetha Pack [1], Leetha Graphics [2], Leetha Press & Process [3] and a partnership concern Namely Leetha Industries [4], which is a hundred percentage export oriented group in Kerala. His sons, Jackson Mathews, an MBA graduate and Dawn Mathews a Mechanical Engineer are executive Directors of the company to help Mathews to hold the helm of the industry. Mathews is married to Thankamma, and she is house wife taking care of the family.
Writing
The first novel named 'Adiyozhukkukal' (1982) published in Kerala Times-Newspaper, had serialized this novel. Current books had published this novel 'Adiyozhukkukal' (3 editions) Later in 1983, a story named 'Maranathinte Manamulla Onasmarankal' received an award from 'Vanitha.' Ten stories are published in various contemporary publications. He has published twenty five books so far including three English books( The Upsurge, Untold Gospel,Devil and Deity) published by Amazon.
