Hussein Ali Mwinyi (born in Unguja 23 December 1966) is a Tanzanian politician and the 8th president of Zanzibar.^[1] He was the Member of Parliament for Kwahani constituency since 2005. He is the former Minister of Defence and National Service of Tanzania.^[2]

Presidency

He is a member of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party and won the party nomination for the 2020 presidential candidate for Zanzibar.^[3] He then went to win the election against long time opponent Seif Sharif Hamad.^[4]

Personal life

He is the son of the former president of Tanzania Ali Hassan Mwinyi.^[5]
