Are the shalivahana and satvahana same Satvahna Gautamiputra satkarni has taken title "sakayavanpallavnidusana" i.e. destroyer of saka, yavana and pallava. If satvahanas were sakas why would they take title like this?

Man I am confused if Gautamiputra satkarni was saka or satavahana king. I got this piece of info "Gautamiputra Satakarni was the most famous king in this dynasty (satavahana). He defeated the Sakas(Scythian), Yavanas (Greeks) and Pahlavas (Parithans)" from http://www.geocities.com/narenp/history/history/stvhan.htm

Actual founder of the Saka era

It seems fairly clear that the actual founder of the Saka era was the Western Kshatrapa king Chastana and not a Satavahana king. Chastana was the founder of the Kardamaka dynasty (most of the kings we call the Western Kshatrapas belonged to this dynasty) and his successors used the Saka era in dating their coins and inscriptions. It is natural that they would use the regnal date of their founder as their era, not a date created by their sworn enemy, the Satavahana king.

I suggest we have a separate entry for Saka era that adheres to the current scholarly opinion and let this entry stand separately.

INDIAN CALENDER SYSTEMS - I HAVE ONE SOURCE AND IT STATES THE FOLLOWING:

- abiseka (Asoka), licchavi, thakuri, gupta, kalacuri, valabhi, harsa, maratha, buddhist and jain(virasamvat), Calukya (vikramaditya II).

- Saka from Koni Saka the Kushan/Salivahana/Nahapana. 78 AD.

- Vikrama or Malava 57 AD.

there is a dispute over the saka calender being founded by the salivahana. and why would Koni Saka want another when he could make one of his own. please respond as most evidence points to Koni Saka being the legitimate founder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.210.45.191 (talk) 16:51, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
