Cerebrolysin (developmental code name FPF-1070) is a mixture of peptides purified from pig brains, including (and not limited to) brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), nerve growth factor (NGF), and ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF).[1][2]

There is some tentative evidence of a beneficial effect on cognitive function in people with vascular dementia,[3] possibly through decreased beta-amyloid deposition.[4] Cerebrolysin is approved to treat strokes and dementia in 44 countries and is undergoing Phase III trials in multiple European countries.[5] It is also sold and used as a nootropic.
