Talk tonight

Nick Michael 16:47, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hello, Gwib. This is a message about simple engish wikipedia that I didn't want to post there. :) I would like to warn you to be very careful with any IP's that make edits to boxers' pages, call admins pathetic, and critisize User:Mkil. I would strongly advise you not to respond to messages posted by this user. --Isis4563(talk) 23:15, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is assuming, of course, that you are the user from simple english wikippedia. :) --Isis4563(talk) 23:16, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He is a blocked user trying to evade his block. --Isis4563(talk) 23:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. :) You're my first friend on en wikipedia! I don't edit here very often, so I'm kind of isolated from other users. Actually, "isolated" is not the right word to describe it, but I hope you understand what I mean. :) --Isis4563(talk) 23:34, 3 August 2007 (UTC) PS. I noticed you didn't have a welcome yet...the links may possibly be helpful. :)[reply]

:-(

Hey, you know, I put your brilliant cartoon on this discussion page. Well, your good friend Isis deleted it almost immediately. I know that the thing isn't really allowed and that the discussion page is for discussion on the article only, but your friend displays a deal of zeal for one who is not an admin on English Wikipedia, coupled with a possible lack of humour. And it shows what sort of articles she looks at, hahaha! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick Michael (talkcontribs)

Hey! I was patrolling recent changes. Why were you looking at that page? :) Sorry, Gwib, for putting this on your talk page, but a little continuity is nice, don't you think? --Isis4563(talk) 18:39, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

???

You've got me confused. Continuity...indeed. --Isis4563(talk) 20:45, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oohhh. Dumb blonde moment. Except for the fact that...well, I'm not blonde. :P --Isis4563(talk) 21:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"I would hate to break our relationship..."
What for???? I was merely editing with my IP instead of my username. I wouldn't really call it "harrassing". It started with a small comment that grew into a whole pouring-out of the frustration I've gained from Wikipedia. The only reason you, and everyone else, knows my IP is because of this. Zoey, sock of a user named Kimberly Ashton, had CheckUser status there and kept my IP for reasons I don't even want to think about (however I do, all the time). That's one of the reasons I posted here. --Isis4563 20:45, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure Purplecloud and Zoey (the user who had CheckUser status on me) are sockpuppets. It's ironic, though, that Purplecloud gave herself/himself by telling Ionas that. Purplecloud is almost certainly another KA sockpuppet. I actually don't really know why I posted all those messages. Only one good thing came of it, to my knowledge: Purplecloud exposed himself/herself as a KA sockpuppet. That's terrific!
I was confused after I had already apoligised, by e-mail, to Ionas, and he still was confused about it, wondering if Purplecloud was right. Then, when I bring it up, he says he never received the e-mail! That explained so many things. I had ent at least six or seven e-mails to him, none with replies, and I, having no way to know the truth, thought he was ignoring me, like he was my messages on SEWP. This "ignoring" thing goes all the way back to June or July. *sigh* I wish none of this had ever happened, don't you? --Isis4563 13:55, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No hard feelings. :) I don't think anyone on Wikipedia has ever made me angry. Especially since I've never actually met anyone here. --Isis4563 15:04, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, about Purplecloud. I feel like I've been cast out of the loop at simple since my short break this week. Unfortunatly, I won't be able to edit there for a while. IMO, Purplecloud and the other socks of Kimberly Ashton should be indefblocked. It's up to everyone else, though, to decide what to do. I'm not a dictator. :P --Isis4563 15:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In all seriousness, that's nice to know. :) It doesn't change the fact, though, that I won't be able to edit very much, here or there. :( If everything goes the way I want (which it won't), I will be able to come back in late December. To use some of my wonderfully stupid metaphors/similies/analogies, I've taken a bend in the path I'm on. To my dsimay, this bend doesn't allow time for Wikipedia. (Except this weekend, yaay!) --Isis4563 15:41, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Iamandrewrice

That was a problem here, too. I am emailing back and forth with him now, and he will not let it go or see the issues from anybody's point of view except his own. Though I do not share other people's emails, I will share the last mail of mine to him: My honest opinion? I am not interested in this whatsoever, and won't be discussing it, either here or there. Make edits to articles, stop the drama, and focus, and I will help you every step of the way. Keep dwelling on nonsense that makes no difference and you're on your own. This was in response to his statement that he wants to file complaints against you and others for double standards, etc., and his decision not to take any advice I can give.

On a related note, it is possible that not every IP edit has been made by him alone. If you haven't read it yet, this thread may help you out. I suspect IluvRosary (sp?) is his friend Joe, and some of those IP edits could be from him, or another friend of his. Though it is completely up to you, my suggestion is this: After his block expires, see what he does (monitoring him closely). If he screws up again, ban him and range block.

By the way, after I wrap up a few things here, I am planning on starting to edit more on the Simple Wikipedia. I have been poking around, and like what I see. I particularly like the fact that it is small and seems to need editors. I think I could have a positive impact in terms of creating new content. just letting you know. Jeffpw (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a few observations which I have discussed with him privately but more importantly I have strongly discouraged any debating whatsoever with any of you. I also suggested a good long voluntary break from editing before he returns after the block. Needless to say that includes filling complaints. I stand by my statement that he can make good edits but he also has an annoying love of debating with people without considering the merits of hips own arguments or picking his battles more carefully. I also caught his last IP edit there and warned him. Like I said on your AN I cannot strongly enough encourage you to do a preemptive checkuser to look for sleeper accounts. Also, as Jeff says make liberal use of the range block feature. This is why we were concerned when that IP posted on his talk page. If you think 7 IP's is bad you ain't seen nothing yet. It isn't my business to tell you how to run Simple English Wikipedia but take it as advice from someone who fought this here. EconomicsGuy (talk) 21:50, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Virginals: DYK nomination

Hi. You nominated this article to appear on the "Did you know?" section on the Main Page, but a reviewer has noted that the fact in the nomination is currently unreferenced: see "Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on May 27". If you would like to try and get the article mentioned in DYK, you need to fix this problem by giving the relevant fact in the article a citation, and notifying the reviewer that you've done so on the DYK template talk page. You should do so ASAP as nominations in that list are currently being considered and non-qualifying ones will shortly be regarded as expired. — Cheers, JackLee talk 22:00, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, however my father might disagree with the "sexual connotations" bit. --Gwib (talk) 05:38, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, he didn't. --Gwib (talk) 05:43, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked?

Earlier today, I was editing from my IP on Sean William's talk page on Simple English. I was blocked for raising what I thought was a fairly good issue. My wording was bad, perhaps, but there was no history of my IP on Simple English, meaning I have never vandalized. Are you sure that you want to be so harsh? Because that's how a lot of vandals start. I'm not trying to be overbearing, just wondering. Please respond on my talk page. Paragon of Arctic Winter Nights (talk) 16:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where the first comment came from, I couldn't tell you- I share an IP with another person. As for the ton of backlash- that wasn't me threatening him. In fact, I said that I would not get involved in it. I have no intention of harassing him or any other admin. But, like I said, those kinds of blocks can be incredibly frustrating to people who want to be constructive, and at least some people are going to react by vandalizing. That's not a threat, that's just thinking about what could potentially happen. I don't want to cause problems- I usually don't edit from my IP, so if it's the IP, then it's most likely not me, for future reference (unless, of course, I say otherwise). Paragon of Arctic Winter Nights (talk) 17:12, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All right, sounds good. But out of curiosity, what on earth was so bad that there was such a giant range block? Also, and again, I'm not trying to be sarcastic, wouldn't blocking several million people with no discernible connection to the vandalism undermine the whole point of Wikipedia?

On a completely different note, I've been having trouble uploading images- I keep trying to get a picture of Per Yngve Ohlin on my page, but it just shows a link to it. Is there something else that I need to do? If you like, I'll show you what I mean. Talk to you later. Paragon of Arctic Winter Nights (talk) 23:14, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thank you for the words of kindness and comfort on my talk page. They help to give me strength in this terrible period. It is people like you who make me see that we are not only connected by the internet, but by the heart. With much love, Jeffpw (talk) 07:45, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gwib,

A courtesy note that I'm sticking my nose into your user space. I think you won't mind, and I don't think I messed anything up, but please check to make sure. --barneca (talk) 05:45, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting the error! I'm no genius with coding and just thought that copying and pasting this over from Simple Wikipedia would suffice. Apparently not. --Gwib (talk) 08:26, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And me!

Hi - a very enjoyable evening! Are you putting Henrick up for DYK? They are now very insistent on a specific reference for the "hook" facts - ideally online ones. Do let me know if you are doing more art articles on the SE WP, & keep in touch. Johnbod (talk) 00:52, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done but now all hooks have to have a in-line cite (see the rules), so it needs that before it can go. Also the title without the "The" would be better strictly, per MoS somewhere. I added a cat. Johnbod (talk) 13:58, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

9/12/08 DYK

DYK nomination

At Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on September 11 I raised a concern regarding the Egan-Sud, Quebec nomination. The article currently has ~1250 characters (discounting the list, infobox, and references). The DYK requires at least 1500 characters. maclean 21:31, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, just replied to you there. Basically, based on the text-only version ([1]), there are 1,621 characters. But that's with spaces, I'm not sure if the statistics are without. --Gwib (talk) 21:33, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You should count the spaces, but not the other stuff. They must have a hockey team? Johnbod (talk) 23:30, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe DYK uses prose size, not text size. So once you discount the Demographics list it drops down to ~1250 characters. Perhaps convert the Demographics list to prose? --maclean 03:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I shall do both. Hockey team will be added (thanks Johnbod!) and the demographics statistics converted (thanks maclean!). --Gwib (talk) 07:26, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

Couldn't actually find a hockey team, even after looking through a bunch of French articles on the damn place. It just tips the scales at 1,500+ though, so it should still work for a DYK. --Gwib (talk) 07:41, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
