New Historians

That is one of many pages I removed from my watchlist after getting disillusioned about the whole mideast section of Wikipedia. Meanwhile some pure nonsense has been added (as usual). I'll add some references with titles before long. --Zero 02:11, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Acher

Yes -- Elisha is the correct transliteration. I thought I left an explanation in the edit summary. Do you know how to redirec the history as well? Slrubenstein | Talk 18:47, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! Slrubenstein | Talk 19:40, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think I fixed it. Slrubenstein | Talk 20:16, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I am not sure how I did it! I am, however, sure that whatever you did do was actually good to do; I think it was the stuff you did that reunited the edit history with the article. I think I just did the final step, Slrubenstein | Talk 19:02, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Ah, well then, you do deserve all the credit. I am glad I made the edit. But the bug is more serious than you make it sound -- Before my edit I found the article emptied of content (I assume this was something you had to do as part of the correct procedure) but even when I checked the history, I couldn't retreive the contents. I had to finagle it a little before I could recover an earlier version ... Slrubenstein | Talk

Darn, I wish that could be automated. It would make "New Pages Patrol" so much smoother. JFW | T@lk 08:48, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

War of the Triple alliance

Hi !

I have used http://onwar.com as a source with permission. Anyway I will do soon some edits to article with more sources. I apologize for this delay, but right now I simply do not have time to contribute articles here daily. Kind regards. --Kulkuri 15:23, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Chicago aldermen

Hi there! Since the discussion seemed finished, I've closed up the Wikipedia:Deletion_policy/Local_politicians discussion for now. I believe consensus has been established that local politicians deserve mention in Wikipedia, but not in a separate article UNLESS they have done something exceptional. Would you please check if you find this a reasonable conclusion, and leave a short note on that page's talk page? Thanks.

Yours, Radiant! 10:12, Mar 8, 2005 (UTC)

Misunderstanding

I fear you have misunderstood my comment regarding Isomorphic. It was certainly no legal threat on my part...it merely points out that we do not have license to say anything we want, and that the things we say about others most certainly can expose Wikipedia to potentially costly legal actions. He needs to exercise greater prudence, that's all. icut4u

French Revolution

Hey Jmabel - sorry for not citing sources. I was going to add a note on the talk page, but hadn't done so yet. I've mostly been following William Doyle's Origins of the French Revolution, which is probably the standard work in English on the subject. The old version of the article was seemingly based on Lefebvre's 1789 (or Coming of the French Revolution) which, though a great book, was published in 1939 and is quite out of date, I think. I will admit that I didn't have Doyle in front of me as I made the changed - I read the book a few days ago, though, and I have a pretty good memory for that kind of thing. Any specific problems you have with my changes are of course open to discussion, and it's quite possible I've made some errors. Also, I think that French Revolution is the only article I've made changes to, as yet - although some of the sub-articles probably ought to be revamped as well. (unsigned, but this was User:John_Kenney).

Indeed it was. john k 23:11, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I did intend to work on Causes of the French Revolution at some point, but you'll notice that the only person who has edited that article in recent days is David Monniaux. I've only worked on the main French Revolution article. I'll add Doyle to the references, though. john k 23:16, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

How do I delete a subpage

I don't know much about these technical Wikipedia issues, but I indicated awhile ago that I would probably eventually delete User:Decius/Info, and I've decided to do so, but I don't know how. I want to make room for a new subpage describing Balkanic data, and I only want two subpages (Etymologies and the new one planned), so Info has to go. Hope you can help me out. Thanks again. Tlaquepaque

Hi! I just thought maybe the thing about toro y castillo was a local idiomatic expression with a totally different meaning, like "a ruckus" or something. Maybe someone will come along and know. Anyway - off to bed! Mona-Lynn 09:00, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Seattle FAC

Do you remember who at the last Seattle meet-up wanted to be notified if Seattle became an FAC? Today is decision day, and a few more Support votes might overcome the remaining (mostly unactionable, IMHO) Objections. Niteowlneils 18:59, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Great edit you did there just now...! :-) -- Olve 09:35, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

My user page: "I see dead people"?

How dare you revert my page! Of course I wrote "I hate white people"! lol (Just kidding. Why does that silly sentence sound to me like Haley Joel Osment in a bad remake of "Malibu's Most Wanted"?) Yes, I somehow missed it when reverting earlier vandalism on my page. Thanks for catching it. Peace 2 u. :-) deeceevoice 11:01, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re: Editing user pages

Dear Jmabel: Thanks for your advice. You understood well, my intention was just to enrich your page with thisminor edit. I am new to wikipedia(or any wikis) and just starting to understand the so called etiquette here. Unfortunately wikipedia doesn't help on this matter much, especially when it has a nice and clear "edit this page" option at user pages. On the matter of using talkpage, I somehow was discouraged by a wikipedia guy who left a message in an article's discussion page saying "these pages unfortunately aren't used"...Thanks again and sorry. Soulmann

Hi: I noticed you voted for the deletion of David E. Ritch, and since I and User:Travisritch have been doing some work on it, I was wondering if you would consider changing your vote. Thanks! Bratsche (talk) 04:00, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)

major RFC changes

Thanks for your comments at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy).

I think we have pretty clear consensus (except for jguk) that the page should be returned to the old procedures, at least for now. I'd like to ask you to please keep an eye on it. He has promised to keep reverting (ad nauseum), so it'd be nice if he see's I'm not the only one undoing his proposal. Primarily, this is because I don't want to see that very important page further disrupted. Please also keep an eye on the example subpage templates at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Example admin and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Example user. Thanks. -- Netoholic @ 21:41, 2005 Mar 11 (UTC)

Please feel free to add any comments you have on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment, where the new approach has already been discussed by other interested parties. It is an attempt to avoid confrontation (which is probably why Netoholic objects to it). The new approach is not perfect, but it is certainly an improvement on the nasty, divisive approach that we used to have. As I say, your comments on the talk page would be welcome, jguk 21:58, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Glückel of Hameln

Like I mentioned, I really translated the article. I will be happy to do a bit more research later this afternoon and see what I can come up with. Danny 14:12, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Revisionist Zionism

Could you please take a look at the dispute at Revisionist Zionism? User:Guy Montag is trying to censor material critical of Revisionist Zionism, particularly documented evidence of fascist sympathies among various Revisionists in the early 1930s. AndyL 22:33, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

punk site

Sorry I did not respond sooner, I did not know this section existed. Very sorry if I deleted that link, it was definitely an accident. I am new to wikipedia and I have loved using it. Punk-O-Matik is a site for punks. It is designed to unite local punk scenes. I have another site listed as a wiki external link and it has sent very relevant users. Please leave my link on the punk page. Sschopp 13 Mar 2005

Biografía y Vidas

Hi, my thought on ByV re: Guillermo Cabrera Infante was: either it is a reliable source (and we keep it) or it is not (and we trash it). As far as I could see in this case, every detail given by ByV seemed ok, and there was another source supporting it.

Constantin Brâncuşi

Hi. I noticed you reverted the changes from Constantin Brancusi to Constantin Brâncuşi. As far as I know, he didn't actually change his name in France, just that because his name included not-French letters, he had to write it in the 26-letter Roman alphabet with no extra characters (even though it should've become Brancushi, but alas). So, I think the Brâncuşi is not used by many sources, including French ones, because, even during his lifetime, the French didn't refer to him in that way because they didn't actually have the characters in their language.

Anyway, I found sources for you that show the use of the Romanian name:

I will actually do some more research into this just to clarify further (and thanks for your interest in Romanian-related articles, not just for this, but in general :) Cheers, Ronline 06:10, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"the first two are just mirrors of Wikipedia" Sorry about that! I didn't realise... the minimalism article was in fact from Wikipedia. So yeah, I don't think the argument about common use stands though - just because something is commonly used doesn't mean it's correct, and as an encyclopedia we should be teaching people the correct usage, not following their incorrect usage. An analogy would be the use of "Marea Britanie" in Romanian for the UK, which, while used more than "Regatul Unit", is incorrect, because Great Britain is of course distinct from the United Kingdom usage. However, there still is the argument about him changing his name, which I will look into. Ronline 06:32, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Tuareg

At Tuareg, why did you de-link Amghar? -- Jmabel | Talk 19:07, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)

Because I made Amghar a redirect to Tuareg. There was nothing at Amghar but a brief definition as the Tuareg word for "wise man", which isn't encyclopedic. If someone wants to write a real encyclopedia entry (even a stub) about imgharan, saying something about their role in Tuareg society, it's easy enough to get rid of the redirect and re-add the link. --Angr 19:18, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Boba-Bukh

I left a comment on the talk-page of the article. Personally, I am not sure that such precise citations are required by our policy, although I do recognize the effort you put into it. I want Doops to assume that you had good reasons to provide page by page citations. But please, consider the possibility that Doops is acting in good faith as well. S/he should have provided an explanation on the talk page. But I hope that the fact thats/he didn't, does not mean that it is too late for constructive discussion between the two of you. Slrubenstein | Talk 20:13, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Apollogies go for the mistakenly inserted cleanup tone tag at this article, due to my inexperience at the Wiki community. I did intend for the basic cleanup tag to go there, tho, for the reasons listed at the article's talk page. As I say there, don't take it badly, but I feel Astor Piazzolla deserves much better than that, and if needed, I can lend a hand in the task. Cheers! -- Shauri 00:38, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Just as I've expressed at the Talk page, I believe the article needs wikifying in its organization and in large part of its content. Perhaps the {{cleanup}} template isn't the most appropriate, you're in better position than me to judge it; yet it's not a mere expansion what I believe it needs, but a complete revision. And please, don't think I haven't noticed your position of being open to discuss the subject and to welcome additions to your article, which I deeply appreciate. Last but not least, I tagged it with the intention of inviting everyone to take part in such revision, not to ask myself to do something, as you put it. I believe the reason why the article has lasted this long in its current form without contend, is because most people at the english Wikipedia have never heard of him before, not because a cleanup is not needed. -- Shauri 13:29, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Talk:Sabra and Shatila Massacre

No the comment was not directed at you, I think you are making an excellent point. Whether my response was 'rather angry' or not, I suppose one of the more interesting features about Wikipedia is that it brings together people from all over the world with different backgrounds  ;-) Tiller1 10:08, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I am still trying to resolve the Glueckl puzzle. Meanwhile, I thought you might like to see Vedem, an article I added this morning. Danny 14:19, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Josel von Rosheim

Hello Jmabel, I'd be happy to help any time. Here I'd say:
Als Ankläger tritt ein in der Nachbarschaft wohnender, bei Rabbi Elias hochverschuldeter Fleischermeister auf -> The/one accuser [in court] was a master butcher who lived in the neighbourhood and owed Rabbi Elias a great deal of money. Saintswithin 11:09, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the grammatical corrections to the Juan Velasco Alvarado article. However, I add some information to the talk page that it might be interesting for some questions. Thanks. Messhermit 19:58, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

This article is translated for the most part, except a few phrases. Can you please see if you can translate them? I've listed the untranslated phrases at Talk:René Favaloro#Loose ends. — J3ff 23:23, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Tibetan people

No, the customs section I deleted it rewrote it entirely. Could my re-written content:

Among the customs of the Tibetans, perhaps the most peculiar is polyandry, as the brothers within a family having one wife in common, mainly for the reason of avoiding the dividing of the family property. Polygamy is also practiced by some, mainly by the Tibetans in Kham.

Monogamy, however, seems to be the rule among the pastoral tribes, and polygamy is not unknown in Tibet, especially in the eastern parts of the country." An article by Melvyn C. Goldstein in the March, 1987 issue of Natural History (the magazine of the American Museum of Natural History) discusses Tibetan fraternal polyandry and confirms the continuation of this practice into recent times. Intermarriage with the Han Chinese do exist but proved to be uncommon, as many of the Ethnic Tibetans do have sentimental feelings towards the Han Chinese.

Be necessarily borrowed from the original content?

2. I aim for Wikipedia:Pushing to 1.0, which means that I intend to rewrite the article all over again, without foreign content. What do you think? Can borrowed content be part of 1.0?

3. Apologise for the references. I thought that the britannica references only came from the customs, but there's more, so I deleted purposely, but with no bad intention to say that all content is original.
