A refrigerant is a chemical that is found in an air conditioner and a refrigerator. It is normally a liquid that would evaporate very fast if it was placed in the air. It is compressed, which turns it into a liquid and makes it hot. The heat is blown away by a fan. Then it is warm. It is suddenly expanded by releasing the pressure, which makes it very cold. Air is blown over the cold to make cold air, which can be used to refrigerate things or cool rooms.
