Gliese 65

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Curps (talk | contribs) at 07:58, 10 March 2005 (focus on UV Ceti itself, it's the notable one). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

UV Ceti is a flare star, the first such star discovered; flare stars are sometimes called "UV Ceti variables". It is a red dwarf of spectral type M6.0e. It is also known as LHS 10.

It is part of a binary star system, where the primary star is a red dwarf of spectral type M5.5e and is known as BL Ceti, G 272-061, GCTP 343.10A, LHS 9 and Luyten 0726-008. This primary star is also a variable star, but not nearly as remarkable as UV Ceti.

This star system comprised of UV Ceti and BL Ceti is approximately 2.63 pc or 8.57 light-years from Earth's Solar System, in the constellation Cetus, and thus this system is among Earth's nearest stars. Its own nearest neighbour is Tau Ceti, 0.88 pc or 2.87 ly away.
