Welcome to the Cheshire WikiProject, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of the UK county, Cheshire. We aim to provide complete coverage on subjects related to Cheshire, by creating, expanding, and maintaining articles on people, places, and things resident or native to, or located in Cheshire. We are also the project which maintains the Cheshire Portal.

Goals
  • To improve all wikipedia articles that are concerned with Cheshire, including its history, geography, people, constructions and buildings, establishments and customs so that as many as possible become Featured Articles.
  • To maintain, improve, and expand the Cheshire Portal.
  • Identify 'holes' or omissions in the coverage of Cheshire, and write new articles to remove them.
  • All relevant articles should be included in the Category:Cheshire or one of its subcategories.
Scope
  • Articles about all subjects related to Cheshire, including articles on people, places, and things resident or native to, or located in Cheshire.
  • The Cheshire Portal - its maintainance, expansion, and updating.

Guidelines

We shall try to follow the Wikipedia:Manual of Style for our articles.

Improving Articles

This entire section gives information about Cheshire-related articles as they progress from simple stubs into becoming Featured Articles with Featured Status. In general, articles should move down into later sub-sections, ending up in the "Featured articles" sub-section at the end. The methods that are used to assess articles are described in the next-but-one main section.

Articles up to becoming candidates for but not yet attaining Good Article (GA) status

This section deals with the creation of a basic article from simple stub via a short article into one which can be considered, with a little work, to become a candidate for Good Article (GA) status. Articles can be added at any stage in this sub-section. Once an article moves into a later sub-section (1.2 and beyond), it should never return to this one.

New Stubs

New articles

Please feel free to list your new Cheshire-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Page.

Already existing Articles that have been substantially reworked or expanded

Please feel free to list Cheshire-related articles here that you have substantially reworked or expanded. This could also include cases where you have added substantial citations and references to an article. (Newer articles at the top, please). Any such articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Page.

Achieving Good article (GA) status

Articles in this sub-section are either close to being nominated for Good Article (GA) status ( ), have been nominated, or have achieved Good Article status. Wikipedia:Good articles gives more information about this status for articles. (Good Article status can be viewed as a sub-goal to achieving Featured Article Status). The criteria an article has to meet or exceed for it to be given Good Article status can be read about here. The process by which an article is nominated for Good Article status can be found here.

Articles almost ready to nominate for Good Article (GA) status

These articles should be judged to require only a relatively small amount of work before they can be nominated for Good Article status.

Articles that have been nominated for Good Article (GA) status and which await a decision

Once a decision has been reached, if successful, list the article in the next sub-sub-section; if not successful, then move it back into the first sub-sub-section of this sub-section.

Articles that have succeeded in gaining Good Article (GA) status

Articles can be listed here for a short while, and, if they are then to be worked on to get them up to Featured Article Standard, they should be moved into the next subsection or stage.

  1. Runcorn on 22nd April, 2007. Well done!
  2. Halton Castle on 23 May 2007
  3. Widnes on 28 May 2007
  4. Lovell Telescope on 7 June 2007

  Peer review/Featured article candidates (FAC)

The following articles are in review as Featured article candidates:

Articles on Cheshire-related subjects, not necessarily improved to Featured Status by this WikiProject. This judged to be the highest level of quality that an article can achieve. Once an article has arrived here, care must be taken to make sure subsequent edits maintain this level of quality.
