Moriah War Memorial College is an independent, Modern Orthodox Jewish, co-educational, day school in Queens Park, an eastern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

The College is a member of the Jewish Communal Appeal,[1] and the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA).[2]

History

Founded in 1942 by Abraham Rabinovitch, Moriah started as a small school by any standards and was constantly underfunded. Harold Nagley, the first principal of Moriah, travelled door to door in an attempt to gain pupils. However in recent years it has grown immensely and is now situated on the huge Queens park campus. Moriah has grown into one of the worlds biggest Modern Orthodox Jewish day schools and boasts very high academic achievements in the Higher School Certificate.

Notably, however, unlike its more liberal equivalent in Sydney´s north, Masada College, Moriah does not accept students who are not Jewish. In fact even Reform Jews struggle to make it through the waiting list. This is done in accordance with the modern orthodox teachings of its foundation. However, this can pose various problems and is not always considered a good feature of the school.
