Social Benefits Controversy

In what was seen as a major embarrassment for the country, in Jun 2005 the Sunday Telegraph reported that Ishratul Ibad continued to receive up to a £1,000 a month in financial assistance from the UK government for 10 months while he was the Governor of Sindh[1] [2]

When confronted his wife replied, "Pakistani politics was so unpredictable that her husband may have been forced to return to England within a few months."[3] Ishrat in his defence said that he had repaid a matter of "a few hundred pounds" but he was keen to make sure any money that might still be outstanding was reimbursed.[4]
