Course Instructor: Prof. S. Parthasarathy
Venue: IIITMK, Park Centre, Technopark, Trivandrum Time: 15:15 PM to 17:00 PM everyday (except weekends and public holidays) Duration: 20 sessions of 100 minutes each Venue: IIITMK, Park Centre, Technopark, Trivandrum Intended Participants:
Students and staff of IIITMK. Professionals, and
students from other institutions and organisations situated in the vicinity of Technopark.
Course Overview
This course will give an overview of French language and culture. This is an informal, foundation course, and should help the participants to get oriented, and take up a more formal study of the French language and culture. It will be particularly useful for students and all those who intend taking up higher studies in France, or a career in France. At the end of this course, the participants would have obtained a brief overview of France, French language, and French culture. They should be able to understand and also make some simple sentences and expressions in French.
This course is based on a very successful course conducted earlier. The course will be spread over twenty sessions of 100 minutes each. The course will consist of highly interactive lectures, supported by printed texts and audio recordings. The entire course will be done exclusively in French. Each class will start with a short overview (10 minutes) of an important aspect of French culture/life (in English), followed by the main lecture on French language (90 minutes). The emphasis will be more on spoken French, rather than on grammar rules. Each student will be given a kit with some CDROMs and material about France.
Registration and attendance
Advanced Registration is mandatory. The total class strength will be limited to 20 only, to facilitate intense collaboration and interactivity.
The course fee will be Rs. 1000 per participant. However, participants from IIITMK will be refunded this amount at the end of the course, subject to the following âDue Diligenceâ policy (applicable only to IIITMK participants). Since the registered students are expected to attend ALL the twenty sessions, the âdue diligenceâ policy imposes a penalty of Rs. 100 for each class the student misses. This penalty will be deducted from the course fee paid by the student (IIITMK participants only), and the residual amount will be refunded to the student.
