Leelkase

Leelkase (Somali: Leelkaase, Arabic: ليلكسي) (Hussein bin Abdirahman bin Is'mail bin Ibrahim al Jaberti) is a Somali subclan of the Darod.

Members of the Leelkase group inhabit parts of the northern Puntland region of Somalia, primarily the Mudug sub-region (including the city of Galdogob), the city of Gaalkacyo, Eyl, Rabaable and Garoowe in Nugaal region. and Bandar Beyla and other cities in the Bari region. However, a number of the Korshe subclan live in the city of Dire Dawa, as well as Jigjiga and the Fiq Zone of the Ogaden.

The Korshe subclan has over ten ugaas (tribal chiefs). Its members are believed to number over 400,000, far more than other Leelkase in northeast Somalia, following a split in the clan over 300 years ago.

The Reer Awsalaat subclan inhabits the Bay and Shabeellaha Hoose (or Lower Shabele) regions of Somalia, as well as the North Eastern Province (currently administered by Kenya).

The Reer Cali Sheikh subclan may be found in the Shabeellaha Dhexe (Central Shabele) region.
