The English suffix -gram means "something written, drawn, or otherwise recorded",[1] and is derived from the Ancient Greek suffix -γραμμα (-gramma) based on the word γράμμα (gramma), meaning "written character, letter, that which is drawn"), which is in turn derived from γράφω (graphō), meaning "to scratch, to scrape, to graze".[2]
