The Capital District (or Capital-Saratoga Area) is a term that refers to four counties that surrounds the Capital of New York and includes the counties of Schenectady County , Albany County, Saratoga County and Rensselaer County. The area is sometimes refered to locally as "Tech Valley" for the tehnology companies who have moved to the region or are being wooed by governmental or educational institutions. The area is currently served by the Capital District Transit Authority (CDTA). The Capital District also comprises the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metro Area which is ranked the 135th largest in North America.
In the same vein, the Capital Region is an term used to refer to the Capital District in combination with counties surrounding the area (namely those to the north, east, and to a degree west of the four counties of the District).

- Troy
It includes the extreme northern portion of the Hudson Valley.
