"Knowing Me, Knowing You" is one of the Swedish pop group ABBA's best-known hit singles. It features on the album Arrival as well as ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits. The song has remained popular in the years since it was released, and Knowing Me, Knowing You has now become the catchphrase of Alan Partridge, Steve Coogan's comic creation from the show of the same name.
The Song
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" was recorded in 1976 at the Metronome studios in Stockholm, and released in February 1977, becoming one of the group's most successful singles. The B-side was "Happy Hawaii," an arrangement of another ABBA song, "Why Did It Have To Be Me," but with a different lead vocalist and lyrics.
Chart Success
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" continued ABBA's assault on the charts worldwide, hitting #1 in the United Kingdom, Ireland, West Germany, South Africa, and Mexico, #2 in Austria, Belgium and Canada, and #3 in Switzerland and the Netherlands. It peaked at #6 in Norway, and at #8 and #9 in New Zealand and Australia, respectively. In the UK, it was the first #1 in a second hat-trick of #1 singles (with "The Name Of The Game" and "Take A Chance On Me"), coming after the group scored three number ones in 1976.
