Shopify is a web-based e-commerce platform. This web application allows businesses to create an online store. It was built using the Ruby on Rails open source web application framework.[1] Shopify launched in May 2006.[2]

In December 2009, it launched the "Build a Better Business" contest[3] in partnership with Timothy Ferriss [4], author of the New York Times Best Seller The 4-Hour Workweek.[5] Tim Ferriss is an Shopify advisor. [6]
Shopify acquired MNDCreative, developers of the StoreSync iphone application, on January 8 2010.[7]
Features
Shopify offers a product inventory management and order management, a content management, and payment gateway integration. The Shopify App Store offers additional features and integration from third party developers.[8]
Designers have full access to the CSS and HTML, and can uses the Liquid templating engine to customize their storefronts.[9]
Shopify is proprietary software available in the English language.
