Timeline of discovery of Solar System planets and their moons

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Curps (talk | contribs) at 04:38, 13 July 2004. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Timeline of natural satellites in the Solar system by decade of discovery

For comparison, discovery dates of Uranus and Neptune are also included, as well as the first six asteroids. After the first six, new asteroids were discovered every year; however, the first four at least were for several decades considered full-fledged planets.

*Note: Marked moons had complicated discoveries. Several moons took several years to be confirmed, and in several cases were actually lost and rediscovered. Others were found in Voyager photographs years after they were taken.
