America’s Next Top Model is a reality television show which pits contestants against each other in a variety of competitions to determine who will win a modeling contract with makeup manufacturer CoverGirl. Supermodel Tyra Banks hosts and produces the show. The premiere season also featured judges Kimora Lee Simmons, Beau Quillian, and Janice Dickinson, who bills herself as the world's first supermodel. By the second season, only Tyra and Janice remained judges, but the others have included ex-model/fashion photographer Nigel Barker and fashion editor/stylist Nolé Marin. After season four, Janice, amid rumors of personality conflicts with some other judges, and Marin were replaced by Twiggy and Miss J. Alexander (Alexander had been involved with the runway and various photo shoots since the first season). The model-aspirants are also coached through photo-shoots by stylist and personal friend of Tyra's, Jay Manuel.

Cycle 5 and Cycle 6 serve as a lead-in to UPN's high school noir show Veronica Mars, and the two shows have had several crossovers. Three ANTM contestants — Naima Mora, Kim Stolz, and Furonda Brasfield — have guest starred on Veronica Mars, with Mora's character being pivotal to the second season storyline.

It was announced on January 24, 2006 that ANTM would be part of the newly formed The CW network, a merger between UPN and The WB when the next cycle start in the 2006-2007 season. Prior to the announcement of merging into The CW, UPN had committed on January 20, 2006, to renewing the series through its eighth cycle [1], for which casting is currently underway. [2]

Eliminations

Although Banks insists that the eliminated contestant is to return to their hometown, there is evidence proving otherwise. In her interview with Television Without Pity, contestant Elyse Sewell talked about how the entire top five participated in the finale runway show, not just the two finalists. Also, in the penultimate episode of season six, the competitiors did a photoshoot for OP Bikinis, and it was implied that only the remaining contestants participated. In the June-July issue of ElleGirl magazine, several eliminated contestants are visible, such as Leslie Mancia and Nnenna Agba.
