Auto Trader is a majority-owned subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. Other investors include Landmark Communications, ADP, Inc., and the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. AutoTrader.com is an Internet-based auto classifieds marketplace and consumer information website. It was founded by Manheim Auctions and ADP Dealer Services under the name AutoConnect.com in 1997. In July 1999, AutoConnect and Auto Trader Online merged websites to form AutoTrader.com. The CEO and President is the company's first employee, Chip Perry. The company is privately held and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
