Folks,

I woke up this morning dreaming about Wikipedia. I think I'm devoting too much time and energy to the project.

I'm the 6th-most-frequent contributor. That's crazy (what's even more crazy is that I felt compelled to put a link into the previous sentence). I don't need to do that much work. It's not like the project will fail without my constant daily attention.

So I'm going to follow Larry's advice and example. Better than that, I'm going to stay off the mailing lists *and* the encyclopedia for the rest of the month.

See you all next year!

Greetings from Japan! I'm on my way to Korea, where I will spend the next 10 days or so. I will thus be off-line through Jan 10th, 2003 :-) --Uncle Ed 08:11 Dec 29, 2002 (UTC)

Ed, I read your contributions on the TMC talk page.

Netesq (aka David F.Prenatt, and yes, he claims to be a lawyer) is a very difficult and angering bit of work indeed. I've run afoul of his venomous "decency = evil suppression of freedom of speech" rant myself. I ended up leaving this website for a while because of him.

My own view is that TMC has a screw seriously loose in his head for using such an obviously offensive name in the first place, and it remains very unfortunate that it took the walkout referred to by Mav before even some kind of compromise was attempted.

His reference of other at best controversial entries to justify his 'nick' illustrates to me the dangers of having them there in the first place. They tend to attract persons like him.

Hello Ed, have a Happy New Year. I am glad, that you took the advise to lay off a while and don't get burned out. Gutes Neues Jahr and have a good trip. You know who.

You still around? KQ

Ed's on vacation, see above. --Brion 23:01 Jan 9, 2003 (UTC)
Heh. Sorry, I (mis)remembered an email saying he'd be back around the 5th. Thanks tho. KQ

I'm back!! :-) --Uncle Ed

It's great to have you back, Ed. Tokerboy 22:26 Jan 13, 2003 (UTC)

Welcome back Ed! I've been a good boy. Honest ;-) --mav

I hope for your sake you don't plunge immediately into all the situations that have been crying out for your common sense. Ortolan88

Have you forgotten NPOV over your vacation, Ed? Your edits to PR Watch were clearly not neutral. --Eloquence 08:43 Jan 16, 2003 (UTC)

I have learned how to be more pliant and loyal (see absolute obedience). If you say my edits were wrong, I'll take your word for it. --Ed

Hi. Is there a way of running a script to find out all of the articles I've started? Mintguy

Ask Brion Vibber or Magnus. --Uncle Ed

It was an edit war. If you you can think of some other term to use, perhaps I will use that next time. Vera Cruz

Good point, and also, thanks for permitting my compromise: his perhaps best-known story is "Nightfall" (1941), which is described in Bewildering Stories, issue 8, as one of "the most famous science-fiction stories of all time" --Ed
you THANK trolls? For the record, I'm prepared to let that version stand ... but I think it's a less useful statement for the reader. -- Tarquin 23:28 Jan 17, 2003 (UTC)
The curse of the civilised is that they must remain civilised even to the uncivilised... Martin

Im getting a little sick of all the talk about trolls. Its nothing but personal attacks and needs to stop. Vera Cruz

Are you as sick of being called a troll as we are of having you be one? -- isis 01:04 Jan 19, 2003 (UTC)

I don't even know who you are and yet here you are with more slanderous personal attacking. Vera Cruz

You've been banned once, Lir, why don't you leave? -- Zoe

Uncle Ed:
Your use of "palatable" in your message to CG was sublime. Thank you for that gem as well as the name-change. -- isis 00:57 Jan 19, 2003 (UTC)

It's time to update the list of most active Wikipedians, complied last over a month ago.

I resent the implication that I am somehow disruptive because of incidents like the edit war on Isaac Asimov. The fact that you and others accepted changes to the article, changes suggested by me, should reason that I accomplished some good there, except, of course, that I suggested said changes which others argue is reason enough to condemn the changes.

You acted as if you had made a compromise however it is clear from the talk page that I had been arguing such a change for some time, in short, your compromise was nothing but my change, presented by a different user, and thus somehow more palatable merely because it didn't seem to originate from me.

Vera Cruz

Wikipedia is not a forum for expressing resentment, but a project seeking to create a free, neutral encyclopedia. Anyone supporting our goal is welcome. Opponents will be banned. Goodbye, Vera. --Uncle Ed 15:10 Jan 21, 2003 (UTC)

You are a hypocrite Ed.

That's silly: I've defended Lir/Vera more than anyone else on this site; possibly, more than everyone else put together. Just e-mail Jimbo, and tell him you'll comply with the rules. What's so hard about that? --Ed

Does this mean that Vera Cruz is back? 172

Yes and no. Vera Cruz is Lir, sporting a new username. Jimbo banned them, but they returned without his permission. So I re-banned them. --Ed
I can't help feeling that sie isn't doing the argument for gender-free pronouns any favours... ;-) Martin

Why is Vera banned? Loisel 23:31 Jan 23, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the nice words, Ed Poor. We'll see if I stick around longer this time ... :)
