End of modernist cinema
editI think it ended properly in the late 1970s according to multiple sources as it made sense that the next decade marked the beginnings of postmodernist cinema. Espngeek (talk) 22:29, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Modernism and postmodernism don't refer to time periods, they refer to a style and ideology of art. There were modernists in the silent era, etc. I'll wait for any counterarguments but Wong Kar-wai is arguably even more of a modernist than a postmodernist. - According to the Wong Kar-wai page, he was influenced by MTV, which is postmodern. Espngeek (talk) 00:57, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not arguing that he can't also be seen as a postmodernist, but he an auteur who engaged in a sincere tone with his material, and used aesthetics as an expression of his character's feelings and psychology, not usually in a self-referential sort of way. I can look for more sources, but I'm pretty sure he can be described as a modernist. YouCanDoBetter (talk) 05:59, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
