Just wanted to start this new page off! Hello everyone. Please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Remember, this is a talk page, so be respectful. Thanks! (Your welcome, Andreasegde!) Kodster (Talk) 19:35, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Now they'll start confusing me with you, and we'll be socks. Do you want to be the left sock, or the right sock? (I don't mind, as I can never find a pair that match...)--andreasegde (talk) 19:38, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't wear socks! :) I kid, I'll be the right, as my left usually has a whole or is mistakenly believed to be a brown sock (it's white!). So you can be left, and bring your BMW and fag with you! Kodster (Talk) 21:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Have you actually looked at the monster from the black lagoon's socks? BTW, look at Free as a Bird, as it is under review, and you may pick up a few pointers.--andreasegde (talk) 21:23, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
LOL her socks match with her shirt; she has developed a style all of her own! Anyway, thx for the Free as a Bird tip. I looked at the reviews, and it did help. The monster from the black lagoon. Is that what they would call you as a schoolboy, or should I say, schoolgirl? Kodster (Talk) 22:06, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, they called me Privet, or comments relating to my male parentage, or lack of it.--andreasegde (talk) 16:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA Nominees?

edit

There're two articles I think deserve a GA nomination. 1 is A Hard Day's Night (song), 2 is A Hard Day's Night (film). D'you think that they're GA material? Kodster (Talk) 22:13, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

BTW, click "History" for this page. I didn't even remember writing those summaries! :) Kodster (Talk) 22:15, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

He thinks the Fabs found "a nailed condom" and set fire to it. Try buying them down the chemist's. Lennon might have put holes in condoms for fun (not true as far as I know) but he never held a hammer in his life (I'll bet that's true...)--andreasegde (talk) 16:49, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tarby

Where did you get that reference about him and Tarby?--andreasegde (talk) 16:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry sumthin came up - Oh that's an old one. I heard him tell it when I was a kid, I'm surprized you'd not heard it, he tells it all the time (and it's true, my Dad told me) another true story is that they used to let him into Anfield for nothing for years because of his clothes and his hair, a mate of his told the lads on the turnstiles that he was one of The Beatles, and they believed it! (true as well!) Vera, Chuck & Dave (talk) 17:27, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
What, Tarby got into Anfield fer nowt? Posing as a Fab with his two front teeth? They probably thought he was Macca after the moped accident. :) Wait a mo', they probably said he had given one of The Beatles a good kicking, and that was enough...--andreasegde (talk) 17:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Look at what that idiot is doing to Macca, and Mr. Admin on my page says I should talk to him! I'd make him run up and down a 35m ladder until he puked! Then I'd order him to run up it again! I've had more than enough of this nonsense, I'll try to contact you via the musician if you come over, but I really have had enough. Nice answer, Realist2, but saying "the mj article is far superior to the beatles article" sounds a bit silly. They are both great musicians, and both have GA articles. This is not a competition. :) Have fun.--andreasegde (talk) 21:17, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Daniel Santos (singer)

edit

Thank you for looking into the Daniel Santos GA nom. I wanted to ask you a favor. I wrote an article which I have not nominated for "GA" and most likely won't, but I would like to know your honest opinion in my "Talk page" if you think that it has the makings of a "GA". Take your time, it only an opinion which I seek. The article is: Hispanics in the United States Marine Corps, Thanks. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:45, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pattie Boyd

edit

I noticed that you put up Pattie Boyd for GA nom. I don't think this'll get one without an image of her at the top. D'you think that it's possible to put an image claiming fair use instead? Kodster (Talk) 17:17, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ahhh... this is an old story, me dear Kodster. You don't actually need any photos at all to get a GA, and the Wiki-police come along and delete a fair-use photo if it's in the infobox (but not in the article) because Pattie's still alive. I have done 22 Beatle GAs so far (3 more waiting for review) so I know the rules. If they don't allow it, then simply find a way around it. :)--andreasegde (talk) 17:21, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have nominated the Thriller (album) album for GA and have worked on it a LOT. Considering our recent disagreement I was worried about bias. Realist2 (talk) 17:43, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry; life is too short. I could look at it and give you a few pointers, if you would like. We're all working here for free, so we should enjoy it. :)--andreasegde (talk) 17:46, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Im not worried about it too much, ive been told by an admin that helped me with a few issues that it was worthy of a GA statues. We could work on it to get it up to FA but i never hold onto the hope of a Michael jackson related article reaching that statues here on American centric wikipedia lol. Realist2 (talk) 17:52, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Uhhh... I have had experience of FA article nominations, and I never want to go there again. Unless they are supported by an avalanche of like-minded editors (sports, literature) they get torn to pieces by wild dogs. GA is good enough for me. :)--andreasegde (talk) 18:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It means as stated in this article. It's pronunced the same as the musical term, and not the "Los Angeles" - LA's. Aw-rright, La?--andreasegde (talk) 21:47, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's just like saying "R'kid" (meaning one's brother, but sometimes a good friend) or "Alright, mate" (meaning a friend, but not a partner). Saying "R'lass" means a wife.--andreasegde (talk) 21:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for sharing that (Note:When I originally wrote this, I was referring to the "Celery" section). :& Can you tell me what Cod means? As in Vera, et al? Kodster (Talk) 22:12, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
It either means "Cash on Demand", "Call of Duty" (he's a fireman) or the Cod fish - I'm not quite sure.--andreasegde (talk) 22:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kodster should take a look at his talk page...--andreasegde (talk) 22:12, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Isaac Epstein

edit

Something in Brian’s article caught my eye. It says that “he arrived in England with his wife Diana in the 1890s at the age of eighteen”, which (obviously) suggests that they were married (in Lithuania) and travelled to Liverpool together. That is possible, but the 1901 census states that she was born in Manchester. A likely theory could be that her parents arrived a generation before Isaac. He would have spoken little, if any, English; and so therefore a wife who could speak the local lingo would have been very useful. I know that this is only a small point regarding Brian’s background, but the devil is in the detail. Is it worth putting in?--Patthedog (talk) 21:14, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good point. I will look at it, or you can do it yourself. Thanks. :)--andreasegde (talk) 21:17, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Is that Diana or Malka that was born in Manchester?--andreasegde (talk) 21:20, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, watching the football! Diana. Or “Dina”, according to the original spelling. Malka Hyman (Queenie) married Isaac & Diana’s son, Harry, who then had Brian. There isn't a lot of information available though regarding the grandparents. --Patthedog (talk) 22:20, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
If it's "Dina", I would think that she was Lithuanian, but Diana would mean English.--andreasegde (talk) 22:22, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I found some Google refs saying it's Hebrew, and connected with Lithuania, but other places as well, of course.--andreasegde (talk) 22:28, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I’m certain her parents were early immigrants. They probably would have used the Lithuanian spelling for their daughter, who was brought up in England. I’m guessing she Anglicised her name at some point. Very hazy info unfortunately. I have even tried contacting various Epsteins, to no avail!--Patthedog (talk) 22:34, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Try asking Brakn, he's the expert on that stuff. He really helped with the Alfred Lennon article.--andreasegde (talk) 22:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I got a message back from Brakn, and he has confirmed that Dinah (?) was born in Manchester.--andreasegde (talk) 10:15, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okey dokey. Yes, it is “Dinah”. How shall we reference this change? I have a downloaded copy of that particular census form, although anyone can access the 1901 website and pay to have the same thing. Quote the website? Btw, would you like me to email you a copy? It’s quite interesting. Cheers,--Patthedog (talk) 10:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okey dokey? Brilliant; I haven't heard that phrase in a long time. I think just referencing the concencus form is good enough. If anyone wants to look it up they can (we can't be accused of lying by referencing something like that.) The only thing is that Isaac arrived in England, and then married Dinah (where/when) so this has to be cleared up. It's probably impossible, but it has to be said. Great working with two other editors, BTW.--andreasegde (talk) 12:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just one more thing! (sounding like Columbo) - Harry was born 1904, and was the youngest of three boys. Does Spitz mention the other two brothers names and their age differences? If so, then I might be able to guess the year Isaac & Dinah married, and therefore access their marriage certificate, which would then give us a maiden name etc. Bit of a longshot. --Patthedog (talk) 14:08, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll have a look.--andreasegde (talk) 20:02, 18 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have the feeling that being here is like being a member of the Moonies, or a part of the Scientology sect, where people are invited to participate in something where they work for nothing (and give financial donations) but at the same time making them feel unworthy if they do not participate in the correct manner, although that will never be really defined, because that's the point; divide and confuse. A message from that bloke with the girl's name

edit

I'm not pissed off at all, and I thank you very nice people for writing good things. After nearly two years of getting articles a GA, I think it's time...

  • I finished that bleedin' book I've been meaning to finish for the last 4 years.
  • Allow people ilke Kodster and Hotcop2 to carry on, as they have dilligently proven they can.
  • Start thinking about this bar in Linz my brothers want to invest in (which means giving me a pot of cash to see what I can do with it).
  • Burn Bob Spitz's book (much laughter).
  • Finish this album I'm writing featuring percussion and voice.
  • Stop telling my girlfriend what is happening on Wikipedia (she's probably sick to death of hearing about obscure pieces of triva concerning The Fabs...)

I don't know if I'll be back, but I might if I can find an article that gets my juices flowing, as they say. I thank you all, and I wish you the best.--andreasegde (talk) 17:58, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

PS, I will look in to see when Rory Storm, Pattie Boyd, and Kenwood, St. George's Hill get a GA. That will be a fitting postscript to add to these...--andreasegde (talk) 18:19, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's good to know that you're okay. I won't be editing as much as I used to. In fact, I'm supposed to be taking a Wikibreak, but I just had to check what's up. I'll be here on a regular basis soon, once I set all of my priorities in order. (No, I'm not making a will).
