It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Article redirects

edit

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hey. I might suggest taking a break from creating all these redirects for former names of Australian TV networks and channels. Not all of the names you're using are legitimate former names, and many of them are completely unnecessary. (i.e. you don't need Prime Television (Australia) because the article Prime Television already covers that former name; or all of LINC TV Lismore, LINC TV (Lismore), Linc TV Lismore, Linc TV (Lismore).

I understand wanting to include former names of a network or channel, but you've reached the point where it's getting ridiculous. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 09:48, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

That’s ok Nick, for a week I will stop creating new redirects. Bassie f (talk) 09:50, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I will only edit existing redirects. Bassie f (talk) 10:03, 28 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hey @Bassie f, you don't actually need to stop. The user nominated quite a few of the redirects you've created for deletion and it looks like they're all going to be kept, except for two which may be retargeted. Don't let redirects you've created being nominated for deletion discourage you. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:26, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Hey man im josh, there is no problem with your redirects that requires you to stop what you are doing. Almost all of those that have been nominated are good redirects that I believe should be and likely will be kept as is. A couple might be retargetted but that's no big deal, it is Nick Mitchell 98 rather than you who appears not to understand the purpose of redirects. Thryduulf (talk) 13:42, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
That’s ok Thyrduulf, By The Way a redirect is just going straight to the article you pointed for the redirect page. Bassie f (talk) 20:38, 29 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

A redirect is a page that sends visitors to another page. Bassie f (talk) 01:47, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Pssst @Bassie f, you're definitely trying to be helpful, but they know (they're an admin). They were just confirming that you're okay to keep at it and that the other user is misunderstanding the purpose of redirects =) Hey man im josh (talk) 14:33, 30 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Hey man im josh: For the record, just because someone's an admin doesn't mean either they know what they are talking about or know everything about Wikipedia. I will attest though you are right that Thryduulf knows about how this works as they have been a regular at RFD and working with redirects for a decade or so. Steel1943 (talk) 18:01, 3 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Steel1943, that's a bit of a weird chime in. The conversation went down the path of what a redirect is, with the user seeming to misunderstand the conversation, and the simplest way to end it was to point out that an administrator knows what a redirect is. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:38, 3 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Hey man im josh: All I was trying to point out us with the way your statement read, it sounded like admins know everything, which they don't. To me, your statement read something like "Of course they know what that is, they are an admin", which comes off as a bit rude since it assumes admins know everything and some non-admins don't know what admins know or some things. But on the contrary, there are several non-admins that know more about specific aspects of Wikipedia than some admins. Anyways, if this was not your intended statement, my apologies for misinterpreting it, but that's how it read to me. Steel1943 (talk) 19:02, 3 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Avoiding cut-and-paste moves

edit

Hi, in the future, instead of performing a cut-and-paste move (which fragments the page history and creates attribution issues) as at SBS TV, please request a page swap at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. I have performed the page swap in this case to preserve the page history as well as your intended redirects. DanCherek (talk) 02:50, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Regarding manual pageswap that comes after the RM closure for BJay Pak

edit

Hi, first of all, thank you for doing non-admin closures of requested move discussions. However if you are unable to move the article for whatever reason (most likely being blocked due to existing content or revisions), do not attempt to do manual pageswaps when you do not have the pagemover right. Request for pageswaps instead at WP:RM/TR, as indicated in the Avoiding cut-and-paste moves. Most pagemovers/admins would usually follow through with the request, unless they deem that the closure may require a review and engage you otherwise.

Pageswapping or round robin moves is most effectively and efficiently done by pagemovers or admins as they have advanced rights to suppress redirects and/or overwrite single-revision redirect pages. Cleaning up manual pageswaps that non-pagemovers editors, like you, have done involves at least other pagemover and/or admin to follow through. – robertsky (talk) 12:41, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

(In this case, there have been at least three editors looking at this when a request to clean up your work was made at WP:RM/TR. This is not counting the admins who would have to clean up the remaining intermediary moves created in the process.) – robertsky (talk) 12:44, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I moved it to Draft:Move/BJay Pak, originally. It is usually a round-robin step. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:47, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah... Please leave round-robin moves to pagemovers and admins to work on. Less confusion and trouble for everyone. Thanks! :) – robertsky (talk) 14:26, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Happily888, do you know a NewsXpress news agency? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 06:23, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't think this article would meet the WP:NOTABILITY criteria for businesses and companies. There doesn't seem to be much significant coverage in reliable sources which reference the newsagency, so it would be highly unlikely that an article written on this company will, at this time, not be nominated for deletion. Also, note that no organisation should be considered automatically inherently notable or noteworthy.
However, if you think the article is notable, I would encourage you to be WP:BOLD and create a draft of the article, potentially at Draft:NewsXpress in the draftspace, or in your sandbox. WP:Article Wizard could also be helpful in guiding you through the process of starting your draft as part of the AfC process. Please also note the conflict of interest policy and ensure that you disclose this if you are editing articles about which you or a family member are connected to. Tagging pages as AI-generated

edit

Hi TechGeek105, please don't tag pages as AI-generated when they likely aren't. Just because LLMs may output phrases that are similar to Wikipedia content, it is more likely that in many cases the library it uses contains data scraped from Wikipedia.

Before adding this template in future, please try checking the article's history for long-term collaborative edits which could show that the paragraphs were not AI-generated, as the two articles you added this template to were imo highly unlikely to be AI-generated. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page for further clarification or to visit the Teahouse help forum. Thank you for editing Wikipedia! Happily888 (talk) 17:03, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Happily888, but I put AI paragraphs in both articles in the first place. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:52, 5 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please read WP:ChatGPT and WP:Large language models#Basic guidance. Specifically, do not publish content on Wikipedia obtained by asking LLMs to write original content or generate references. Please disclose any usage of machine learning in your edit summaries in which you add information; you should only be using using AI to help or advise you as opposed to adding any large amounts of content. If possible, please remove your artificially generated additions or rewrite these sections instead using reliable, secondary, well-researched sources. Happily888 (talk) 03:54, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unnecessary page move of primary topic and using more appropriate edit summaries when reverting users

edit

Hi TechGeek105, please see WP:PRIMARYTOPIC regarding your recent page move of The Morning Show and familiarise yourself with these guidelines and the naming conventions in future prior to moving further pages. Also, please provide more detailed or better reasoning in your edit summaries if reverting other users, rather than just stating that the edits made are "bad changes". Happily888 (talk) 12:38, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Happily888, I clearly stated that there are 2 different Australian programs called The Morning Show, so a move to The Morning Show (2007 TV program), makes sense in my opinion. Maybe this could become a WP:RM discussion? I will revert edits by other users using words like this (Reverted your changes that messed up the formatting of this article) Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:13, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Although WP:PTOPIC states that the article to which a term should lead to is commonly considered through the two major aspects: usage if it is highly likely … to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term and long-term significance … substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic. In other words, you don't have to fully disambiguate an article just because another topic of that name exists, it can be left un-disambiguated if it is highly likely that most people would be typing this title, or this partially ambiguated title, and would be looking for that topic. Looking at article traffic statistics and wikinav shows that the topic's most commonly searched TV program is the Australian version, which means that its probably not necessary to move this to a more specific disambiguation, as most users will most likely be searching for this article but moving mean it would take longer for users to search for it. Happily888 (talk) 09:09, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
If the Australian program receives a view drop, should we disambiguate it? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 09:29, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Maybe, but probably not as it has been shown over a long period of time to be the most likely to be searched topic, generally significantly more overall views than the Canadian and former Australian version combined. Please just read WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:DAB, they explain these concepts very well and will be helpful when you may be considering future page moves. Happily888 (talk) 09:54, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot, @Happily888. I have now read both pages you linked, and remember to always mark disambiguation pages on hatnotes with (disambiguation) or use the name of the disambiguation page plus (disambiguation), then {{!}}, plus the name of the disambiguation page without (disambiguation). In my opinion, my user page needs cleanup from my latest edit, because it has over a thousand bytes. @Liz, @Happily888 and other users, would you like to cleanup my user page with permission from me? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:52, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

My personal life and some Wikipedia information deserves to be on a new Bas Carr article. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:58, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Length correction: My user page now has 3,483 bytes. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 09:34, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The reason why I am doing this is because I don't have an article yet on Wikipedia. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 09:52, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TechGeek105 this is a reminder that your user page is not an extension of an encyclopedia article or vice versa. Your user page can be of any size and length, and is meant to showcase your contributions and interests as a Wikipedia editor, and should not really substitute a Wikipedia article. See Wikipedia:User pages for further information.
An encyclopedia article will only be created on you if you are notable as a person (meeting Wikipedia:Notability (people) requirements) and should only be created by others. Please take the time to read this and only request an article on yourself if you think you meet this. However, I can see that you have been mentioned in a news article, but this is most likely an example of Wikipedia:BLP1E and still would not qualify.
Lastly, please note that almost all Wikipedia contributors are volunteering to build an encyclopedia, not volunteering to clean up your user page. You have created and are maintaining a user page at your own will, and can request deletion of it if you no longer want it. But not everyone will be willing to clean up your user page. Thanks! Karnataka talk 15:17, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
This makes sense, @Karnataka. I am not notable except for the Canberra Times article, I am clearly expanding articles as I please, but not an article yet on me. I was also mentioned in an ABC News (Australia) article (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06-11/school-experiences-disability-royal-commission/101138298), so I at least have 2 notable references.   Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page AMV (TV station), may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 01:50, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Qwerfjkl (bot), that's ok. I hope someone adds titles to the references at some point Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 03:00, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Retired template usage

edit

Hi TechGeek105, Please read WP:RETIRED prior to using the retired template on your user page. Being retired means you plan to completely and permanently stop editing.

If you plan to either continue to edit or resume editing Wikipedia in the future, you might not be retired, and you may prefer to use either the semi-retired template, almost retired or wikibreak templates. Thanks! Happily888 (talk) 12:50, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Happily888, I have changed the retired template to the wikibreak switch template with the busy parameter and I have also read WP:RETIRED. I am busy in real life from 9 October 2023 to 13 October 2023, due to me having a lot of appointments and the ACT school term 4 2023 starting on 9 October (Monday). I am currently 14 years old and go to Alfred Deakin High School in the Canberra suburb of Deakin, both named after Alfred Deakin. @TapLover, @SatDis, @Happily888, and other members of WP:AUS and WP:AUSTV, I have had more and more news articles on me and further TV appearances in the past few months, in my personal life, due to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (aka Disability Royal Commission) releasing its final report.

I will be on the ABC's 7.30 report on Monday or Tuesday night, as mentioned by the real Celina Edmonds, about inclusion in schools. It was supposed to air last Thursday, but delayed due to international news. Can all of you please watch the story? Have you ever been on TV? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Majella Wiemers

edit

I had some concerns after reviewing this discussion. Specifically, your behavior there, where you pinged two specific other editors there and indicated their position might favor yours, could be seen as canvassing. It would be wise to avoid doing anything like this in the future, as canvassing is considered disruptive to a discussion. Seraphimblade Talk to me 07:01, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Seraphimblade, I have no idea of what canvassing means on Wikipedia, despite being an experienced Wikipedian. I also added supporting refs to that article. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:07, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
The very reason I left a link to WP:CANVASS (and am now doing that again) is so that you could familiarize yourself with that if you needed to. Basically—it's sometimes okay to just notify other editors of a discussion, but you should not attempt to notify only editors who are likely to favor or support your position, and you should not encourage them to participate in any specific way. In this case, you called in editors encouraging them to "find sources" (and seemed to think they were people who would be inclined to do that), so that's falling toward the "not acceptable" type of notification. Not something I'm going to block you for or anything, but I do want you to be aware that it's frowned upon and could be considered disruptive if it becomes a pattern. Seraphimblade Talk to me 07:13, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
If I cannot find sources, I will look on The Wikipedia Library or ask WP:RSX. That is how I could avoid WP:Canvass. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:18, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Seraphimblade, I will also discuss other topics on your talk page, can we please not reply anymore in this section. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:21, 28 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It is worth knowing about this - as 0 views, and very low actual watchers (right column summary) suggest the possibility of no responses at all, I used to some time ago expect up to a year (yes) delay in some Tasmanian items. I no longer have much faith in getting responses in even crowded talk pages, it all depends on the subject and the context. JarrahTree 00:52, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

2022 in Australian television

edit

Hi TechGeek105, I have found a reliable source, a David Knox article, for the "television deaths" section of the 2022 in Australian television article. You can use it to look at the list of names of television-related celebrities who have passed away in that year, and from there, find additional sources to support the Knox article, and add the celebrities to the TV deaths table. I've already listed the source in the references of that article, so there's no need for you to do it.

Lotsw73 (talk) 05:05, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot @Lotsw73, I will do that when I have more time to focus on Wikipedia. My editing session might freeze as I am on a iPad Air 4. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 06:19, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @TechGeek105, I was just wondering whether you think the 2022 in Australian TV article has been adequately updated yet. The TV deaths section probably still needs some work, but what about the rest of the article? It certainly looks better than it was! Lotsw73 (talk) 13:50, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Unfortunately you are not allowed to withdraw a discussion unilaterally when the nomination was made in good faith, and there has not really been any discussion. The normal way of doing it is to expand the article, even vote keep, and then let others decide that the expansion should lead to a keep outcome. (See WP:HEY.) Are you willing to revert your so-called withdrawal? Geschichte (talk) 18:16, 30 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
