Recruitment strategy ideas
editPlease note any ideas about how to recruit experienced Wikipedians into joining the program and serving as mentors for students.
- Target editors who already welcome/mentor new users. JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 21:13, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Approach the "Hosts" at WP:TEAHOUSE, maybe spend some time compiling a list of regular Help Desk responders. The Interior (Talk) 12:38, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- Reach out to editors who are members of WikiProjects that closely relate to academic disciplines. JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 21:13, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Use Category:Wikipedians by alma mater to target alums from specific schools when their alma mater has a course with WEP. The Interior (Talk) 12:51, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Additional Notes
editWhen recruiting Online Ambassadors, here is a list of requirements/expectations/responsibilities we should keep in mind. Please add to the list as you see fit.
- Available mid-Summer 2012, every Online Ambassador must complete a virtual Online Ambassador orientation before signing up to work with a specific class.
- The main role of the Online Ambassador is to serve as a welcoming advisor to professors and students using Wikipedia in the classroom.
- The Online Ambassador serves as an important step in preventing copyright violations by monitoring student work and providing constructive feedback about Wikipedia policies. Editors we recruit should understand basic Wikipedia policies and how to communicate them to a new user.
