Trillian is an instant messaging application for Windows, which was named after the fictional character. It can connect to AOL, ICQ (but message sending to older clients broken), MSN Messenger, Yahoo! and IRC networks. The program was originally available only as freeware, but the first version of Trillian to be launched as a commercial product was Trillian Pro 1.0, which was released on September 10, 2002. Cerulean Studios, the company that created Trillian have promised they will continue to support and maintain a free version of Trillian.

Kopete (KDE), Gaim (GNOME) and others are multi-protocol instant messaging clients for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.
