It's not a collector's item. It's sold millions of copies, and is still for sale new, shrinkwrapped at most stores. That's flat wrong. -Franklin Bynum 02:50, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I've removed the line. -Phoenixrod 03:31, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Umm it is not sold new ANYWHERE, EA had all stores pull what copies they had left because of the Take2 MLB deal. The game sell on ebay for over $100 all the time Krawhitham 08:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"When playing a season mode, the user can only select one team/organization to play with that entire season and future seasons (i.e. by choosing the Red Sox in the dynasty mode, the user is not able to play game with, edit rosters, or change lineups for any other of the 29 organizations)"

How is that a design flaw? Fitz221 19:48, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the "design flaws" list are BS Krawhitham 08:16, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a design flaw to me... I have played a handful of baseball video games and each and every one (up until this one) you could play a season with any team (not just one). Seems like an unnecessary problem mainly since it was never an issue in prior baseball games. 172.147.95.202 04:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the part about game reviewers saying the game being biased towards the Red Sox. Maybe it is true, but I haven't read a review that said that. --Rigist 18:14, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--66.177.109.174 06:29, 20 January 2007 (UTC) Hey Yo, I'm Pelican. I was just browsing through WikiPedia and came across this discussion on MVP Baseball 2005 and I wanted to throw...well, my two cents in on the topics raised on the discussion page.[reply]

First, what moron said that this game was a "collector's item"?! The title of the game includes the year 2005 on it for God's Sake!!! ("A Classic" Yes! "Collector's Item"?...what?)

Second, yes this game is still sold in stores! I've seen it at multiple places of business without naming names. Just because EA can't make a new MLB game doesn't mean that the old ones that have already been released have to be pulled off the shelves! That's the stupidest statement concerning video games I've ever heard!!! And I've heard some stupid stuff about video games before! I mean you can still buy brand new, shrink-wrapped copies of "Triple Play Baseball" from 2001 if you wanted!!!!!

Third, if you pay $100 for ANY video game you are officially the stupidest man alive! Period! No Discussion!!!! And you are closely followed by the (explicit deleted) jerk that's trying to sell a video game for $100!

Fourth, WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S A "DESIGN FLAW" TO ONLY BE ABLE TO CONTROL ONE TEAM IN SEASON MODE?????!!!!!!!!!! Jesus H. Christ! Every time I thought I've read the dumbest statement, you guys proceed to top one another!!!!!!!!! 1.) Why would you want to play as multiple teams in the same season?! 2.) What "handful of baseball video games" you’ve been playing 'cause I'm hard pressed to think of one game that you can control two teams in the same season! 3.) What the heck does "Design Flaw" even mean? Did Calvin Klein make this game?! A "Design Flaw" is wearing a pair of flip-flops with full-length jeans not controlling one team in Season Mode!!!!!

Fifth, (This is fun.) Time for the Coup de Grace! Yes Virginia, this game has a Red Sox bias!!!!! I noticed this day one, when I bought it! This is going to take a while so I'll put my proof in a list.

1.) Manny Ramirez is on the cover! Granted the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 thus they put a Red Sox...Sock?...Sick?...Suck? (What is the singular form of Red Sox anyway? I've always wondered that.) Anyway, they won in 2004 so they put Manny on the 2005 cover, but if you use this logic why was Albert Pujols of the also-ran Saint Louis Cardinals, who didn't even make the playoffs in 2003 and finished in their division behind the Chicago Cubs, on the MVP 2004 Cover?! Why not everyone's favorite inebriant Dontrelle Willis of the World Champion Marlins?! ANSWER: Red Sox Bias

2.) The St. Patrick's Day Jersey. Why? Sure it's different. It's a new element that I don't remember in any other baseball video game. I don't care about it, but, nonetheless, it is a new element not in any other game. But there's already way, WAY! too many Red Sox Jerseys in this game. Each of the 30 MLB teams has at least one, in some cases two, set(s) of throwback jerseys, but the Red Sox get THREE: their 1903 Home/Road, their 1908 Home/Road, their 1908 Alternate, and the cheat code-required St. Patrick's Day Jersey. Why add the St. Patrick's Day Jersey? ANSWER: Red Sox Bias

3.) There's an unlockable version of Fenway Park. No, that's not a typo! You see, Current Day Fenway Park is in the game, but one Fenway Park is not enough! No. no. no. They have Fenway Park circa 1934 or "Fenway Park (Classic)" as it's dubbed in the game as an Unlockable Stadium. "CLASSIC"?! "CLASSIC"?! "Fenway Park (Classic)" is Fenway Park Pre-Green Monster Noise-Bleed Seats! "Fenway Park (Classic)" is Fenway Park as it's been for the last 70 years, with the Green Monster. That's the first thing you think of when you hear "Fenway Park". Besides, only 3 people in the whole world know that the Green Monster was not actually part of the original Fenway Design. And then they further add to the retardedness by dating this "Fenway Park(Classic)" as 1912 - Present...Swear to God! It says that! Gee, I thought the Green Monster still existed? (That's sarcasm by the way.) Why two Fenways? ANSWER: Red Sox Bias

4.) The Opening Movie. As you start MVP Baseball 2005 you are greeted by "Cover Boy: Maybe He's Born With It, Maybe It's Maybeline" Manny Ramirez hitting two homeruns off of...guess who the New York Yankees, along with a caption at the bottom of the screen reading "History Was Made In 2004..." That's right Mr. Cover Boy, the World Series MVP of the 2004 World Champion Red Sox is hitting simultaneous-homeruns off of the Yankees apparently in the 2004 ALCS. Not Two HRs off of the Cardinals in the World Series where the history was actually made when the Red Sox finally won the World Series after 86 years of sucking, but two HRs off of their hated rivals just two take a jab at the Yankees. Why? ANSWER: Red Sox Bias...and an Anti-New York Yankee Sentiment

5.) Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz hit like psychos in this game. After you read this, start a season with the New York Yankees. Your first games are against the Boston Red Sox, just like in the actual 2005 Season (Part of a Real-Life Red Sox Bias). Now pitch to Ramirez and Ortiz...Holy ----! They hit a homerun like every time...on ROOKIE!!! Even when I got a lead...POW! BING! BAM! I lost it in an inning. I lost twice, but I refused to start the season with a ridiculous loss. Once I won the third try, I kept it and proceeded to go 19-0 against the Red Sox and win the World Series. (157-5; 11-0 in the Post-Season) NYY World Champions! But Ramirez and Ortiz still hit like psychos all year. Why? ANSWER: Red Sox Bias

6.) Wakefield's Knuckler. Whenever Tim Wakefield pitches, particularly at Fenway, the whole game slows down and the crowd actually flashes. This is due to his Knuckleball, however, other pitchers have the Knuckleball (including Mussina's Knuckle-Curveball) yet only Wakefield's causes this "very convenient" glitch to happen. Why? ANSWER: You should know by now. Red Sox Bias

7.) That BLEEP! *!#@^ Son of a &@*@^ "Tessie" song. Apparently, according to a Sports Weekly article I read just after the game's release, "Tessie" "became the battle cry for Red Sox fans during the 2004 home stretch and postseason." This is just an all around annoying song that I hated the instant I heard it, and after finding this out I hated it even more! For one, half the lryics consist of "Red Sox" and "Boston". (Side Note: When I first heard the song I was creeped out by it because I could have sworn that it said "Tessie is a man with a sparkle in his eye...". Needless to say I never let the thing play; once I heard that piano hit I clicked R3!) So why is this song in the game? ANSWER: Red Sox Bias

8.) The Load Screens/Cut-Scene Promos. Half...Scratch That!...Two-Thirds of the Load Screens and Cut-Scene Promos are of Manny Ramirez, Red Sox Players, or their fans. Again, yes they were the defending World Champions, but MVP 2004 did less with the then-World Champion Marlins then even the city of Miami does. (Sorry Marlins Fans..."Fan". Oh well, Viva Las Vegas!) Anyway, why so many load screens and promos? ANSWER: By now, it’s elementary my dear Watson. Red Sox Bias

If this doesn’t show a Red Sox bias then I don’t know what will.

P.S. In case you were wondering, yes I am a Yankee fan, but my little brother is a Met fan and agrees with me wholeheartedly.
