Interland was founded by Ken Gravonivich. It was later acquired by MicronPC. Micron then sold off the PC business and changed its name to Interland. The company was run by Joel Kocher until August 2005 when Jeff Stibel took over as CEO. In February 2006, the company changed its name to Web.com.

Interland's primary business was providing web hosting services, for both shared and dedicated hosting. The company has hosted over four million websites for small businesses. It also offered email hosting and other advanced hosting services.

Interland acquired numerous hosting companies between the years 2001 and 2006, including HostPro, Innerhost, Interland, Burlee, Trellix, Communitech, WazooWeb and most recently Web.com.
